Happy Christmas and New Year everyone. Well potting has been sparse and funds limited so in the spirit of a Christmas Savings Club I have decided to put £30 a month from my wages into the pot.  So I have added £30 from my early paid January salary.  If I do have any bits of change along the way they will get added too 🤞

Hello Potters!! I hope you ALL have a wonderful New Year's Eve and and a really amazing New Year's Day! I hope you all have a  lovely for Christmas, and are all ready for the BIG DAY!
Have a good day today and a wonderful day tomorrow as well as Monday, Boxing Day!
For any one poorly or low in any way, do take very great care and get well soon! From us all, best wishes 3

I agree, Ant, those new 5ps do look a lot like the old 6p (referred to as a tanner). The old 5ps were worth a shilling (referred to as a bob) old money). A lad in our class had the name of Robert Tanner... anyone guess what his nickname was?
You're right about 240 old pence being worth an old pound.
A Florin (2 shillings) was also referred to as 2 bob. A penny was also referred to as a copper.
Also on the scene were threepenny pieces 2 to a 6p
Who on earth is Makingabobor2?!! On another thread perhaps!

I hope you all had a really great Christmas, Hicksy! Considering how the last year went, you're right, it was a fantastic Total, but nowt like the £49,000 the year before last. Still, all in all I'm very chuffed indeed.

Ah so you too have a weak spot, Ant, though I wouldn't dream of mentioning it, have a nice cup of tea!
Good for you with your latest cash!!

Well done with your virtual potting LMD!!

    This year's Grand Total was

    £28.353.16!!

Very well done with your latest amount of cash, Vicky!!

Oh poor you and DH, MrsShazbat!!! I hope his wound infection soon clears up. You were really fortunate to have been fed by the family, though however could they not!! 😕 Yet your dear DH missed out totally!!😳
Very well done with your pot pencing, nu1isit!! I hope your Christmas went well and you enjoyed yourselves.

That's a very good plan, Hetty, and certainly one of the best ways of saving, especially if you're thinking of the entire year! All the best for you!!

T and I had a very good Christmas, a little quiet, but forced by family colds/Covid which we just couldn't let into our house. Sad, but my health won't allow it. 😕

So you too have a weak point, Ant, I wouldn't dream of mentioning them.

Beware of the Flu, Covid or any other viruses, potters please

    Sue

NB folks: Opening date for SPC 16 is 26TH October 2023! BEFORE if you wish BUT NO LATER PLEASE!

Anyone wishing to join us, it's NEVER too late! So please just ask and you

    will be made very welcome.

  • Hi folks,
It been good catching up.  Had a quiet Christmas here thanks to strep!!  Nothing as bad as what Mr Shazbat has been going through!  Between  working and not spending I've managed to put a decent sum into my virtual savings pot.  Hopefully that has given me the boost I need to keep saving through the next year.  Planning to cut back on any unnecessary spending🤞

Hope everyone has a good New Year x

    Good potting @RavenRover
This strep outbreak has been scary for sure. Hopefully you’re into a good potting habit now.
Thanks for the much fuller explanation of pre decimalisation @Sue-UU   :)
Every day is a learning day!
First day back at work yesterday was a work from home day so I’ve potted the cost of the bus ticket that I didn’t buy.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2023

Hi all, haven't posted for a little while, I've been struggling to save at the moment. This is largely due to being on pre-pay for gas and electric and a combination of it being so cold recently and not having received my voucher from EON this month - most likely they have sent it but it's  been delayed with the postal strikes. Anyone else having the same issue??  It has been a  constant battle to keep any credit on 😥😥😥
I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your mum rancid-a,  I lost my mum in the summer,  I can relate to the conflicting emotions as my mum had been in a care home a long time. I have been ok up to now but been hit this week as it would have been her birthday. Please take care of yourself especially over Christmas xx
    Hi Hummingbird,

I just wanted to say I sympathise with you. I lost my Grandad October 25th and Christmas Eve would have been his 98th birthday, and with mine being the 27th I really missed not speaking to him this year.

    In my thoughts.

    Happy New Year al
, I'm upset because last year's savings have disappeared. I didn't have a new sealed pot so was putting this years sealed pot money in there too in a tin  (the ones with a lock on, it had the money I had kept back for money gifts for my DGC and DD1, DD2 had hers a few weeks ago towards new blinds) strange thing is the tin has gone but not the key, it's over  £600 so not a small amount. I've searched the house high and low, every cupboard an drawer, under beds, everywhere it could be. I hate to think it could be a family member but they're the only people who have been upstairs and the adults knew where this tin was kept.

That is a very upsetting thing to happen. Is there any possibility there might be an innocent explanation? Can you delicately ask the other adults in the house? I hope you find the answer and that somehow it turns out not to have been taken.

Well, first thing I have to do is start using real money again!  I started my SPC with the grand sum of 25p, its all I had left, but its a start!  Bought a Terramundi from charity shop for £1 to put it in, so technically I'm 75p down.....

    Happy New Year to all.

@lucyhope I truly hope you find your tin and that no one has taken advantage in a weak moment.
