pigpen said:KMN.. I NEVER put pasta in the SC, it is just nasty. My MIL did it once and it was inedible, I do have food issues though... It won't help you now but can you pick out the sloppy pasta and cook fresh pasta in a pan and put the sauce/veg in another pan and boil off some of the water. Throw in a handful of lentils to soak up some of the water and some gravy granules or a packet mix to thicken it? You can also use packet mash to thicken sloppy SC food which works really nicely.. just add powder very slowly to avoid over thickening. I also never add extra water to the slowcooker unless it looks a bit too thick which is very rare. We live and learnYORKSHIRELASS said:Aww Kissmenow hope you managed to salvage it. I find a lot of slow cooker recipes need a bit of cornflour mixed in water to thicken them x
Iona not sure whether its a swan, duck, or other water bird but there is definitely some frantic paddling going on x
Not a bad day working from home. Still anxious and wobbly but plodding on. Day off tomorrow.
As for flying, I have put clean washing away, emptied and refilled DW but thats about it. Fire lit and feet up now.

KMN.. always a great opportunity for a good old moany review
We all like a good vent, especially with cash being quite so tight.
Having had all but one of the grandbeasts here today my house is trashed and can stay that way until tomorrow.
Litter trays all clean.
Shopping done so we have food for a few days.Tomorrow I need to order cat food.OH is being utterly frustrating and not discussing with me what we should do regarding secondary for Dot.. Morning all.
Of course last night I ended up doing lots of flying to clear up after the workmen. They're back today but just for electrics so won't be as bad, but yesterday it poured with rain and everywhere was covered in dust and filthy dirt.
I'm going to get dressed, back in yesterday's clothes, have some breakfast and do some more sorting out before they arrive.
Also need to collect Poppet from the dog sitter this afternoon then get myself clean as I'm going out tonight.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.9 -
Morning all. I had a better night's sleep and have only been up since 6.00. So far I have made a cuppa, emptied the DW, wiped the hob, put the three bags that I'm taking to DS2 by the front door, and packed up three large boxes of cakes and puddings. I just want to do a few quick computer-based jobs before what will be an earlier breakfast than usual - even if I have to make the porridge myself. We have to pick up DS1 and DDG1+2 at 9.15, to save taking 2 cars, but DS1 has offered to do all the driving
I gather that some of the family will be wearing seasonal jumpers (lunch is to be our early Christmas family meal, as we shan't all be able to get together in December), though DS2 and DH have said they will stick to fancy socks and DS1 is promising Christmas underwear(Sorry if TMI !) Rosie is allowed to come with us, though she'll have to wait in the car while we eat.
Must get on - will catch up with you all this evening xxx

Morning all
have (so far) sailed through chemo… last time I felt poisoned. This time I’m fine…and puzzled. Someone suggested my bod6 had got used to it…after 1 session? Anyway it is what it is.
Laundry drying and ironing done Wednesday…I had written this yesterday morning but forgot to post.
List is up.Another cunning thicken-up-the-sauce method is to add dumplings to the SC for the last 30 minutes or so. But this was a strategy I used when I had a hollow-legged male teen to fill.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

KMN: I'm working my way through my slow cooker book at the moment and these are the notes I've made about pasta: 'Pre-cooked lasagne sheets take 2 hours on High or 1 on High and 2 on Low in the sauces. Dried pasta (not the egg type, or fresh) takes 30 – 45 minutes on High in thinnish sauces, and absorbs some of the liquid.' It says that it just goes flabby if you cook it with everything else from the beginning; add it later. I used a Simon Rimmer recipe once for a pear and chocolate tart that, on reflection, couldn't have worked that I think I found on BBC Good Food, but by and large most of their recipes are reliable. If you want bombproof ones stick to Good Housekeeping.Have a wonderful family day Ionafan.Excellent news on the chemo course Valli. I hope the rest of it passes as smoothly.I've managed to make lunch two days running and start work on the grubby grubbiest bits of the kitchen while doing so, so there's progress here. Belovéd has been an absolute star all the way through since I broke my ankle 10 weeks ago, but Flying has gone by the board. He's whipped out the cordless vacuum when the carpets needed it where guests can see it, changed beds, and swish and swiped the shower room once but that's it. I'm not exactly itching to get stuck in but it's going to take a while to get the house back into decent shape and I'm not looking forward to that. I'm being cautious at this stage because we've had a trip to London planned for something very special, one off event next week and I absolutely have to be able to hobble about and be okay for that. After that trip I'm going to see what my limits really are. I have excellent stocks of paracetemol and ibuprofen.I've made the decision to let an awful lot more stuff go while I'm at it - if the only time I see, touch or think about my mother's childhood books is when I'm dusting (very rare), or when I'm trying to declutter then I won't miss them. I'm tired of trying to organise clutter. I googled her last night and found some photographs of her on t'internet I'd never seen before which was very strange. I thought about buying them and then realised I didn't need to - they're available if I want to see them and I absolutely don't need to own them. That was a rather strange experience.
Better is good enough.9 -
