We live about 3 miles from the sea front but I can't remember the last time I went but as we are on the part of the coast where the sea goes out a long way I would be lucky to catch it. There is also the sea breeze which can sand blast you. I do sometimes miss it though.

I absolutely adore being anywhere near the sea - or in fact water generally! As a Londoner you sort of get used to the river just being there I think - in fact I worked for a good few years almost next to the North side Woolwich ferry terminal - used to love being able to walk down there at lunchtime and just pop over and back if I felt like it!  I suspect this is why I enjoy spending tie on islands as much as I do - nothing beats being able to get a really good view of the sea for me - and anywhere that I can see the water in almost every direction is even better! we're planning a day out over the Easter weekend - would love to be able to get as far up as North Norfolk but we've decided to keep the driving scaled back a bit and head for Suffolk instead.

Is Southwold in Suffolk @EssexHebridean?  We went there a couple of times and loved it.

It is indeed - and it's a lovely place with a fabulous pier and a very good brewery! I think this time round we'll be heading for Aldeburgh - just along the coast, similarly lovely but no pier or brewery. Great fish & chips though!

  • I'm glad you had a lovely time at Hunstanton.  I used to live very near, and be able to go there after work, 10-15 minutes to the sea there or at snettisham in car.  A *while* on the bus, but fun. I miss North Norfolk. We are about as land locked as you now, and it's the furthest I've ever lived from the sea.  I go a little crazy at times!

We keep meaning to do a trip but getting out in the morning and over there is difficult, and partner refuses to go in season (fairly understandably!)

@ladyholly I KNEW you were going to say Weston SM when you said 'sea goes out very far!'.  (Some of my family used to live there and I spent weeks at a time there in school holidays. It was sometimes surprising to actually see the sea!)

@Makingabobor2 I had issues with my sig yesterday. Not tried today.

  • At one point, weren't signatures restricted to five lines, unless an older user? (with one already over 5 lines?) Forum is still glitchy though.
