Just to say we had an absolutely glorious day out & was just what we needed after the previously mentioned " family issues". Sunny almost all day, and just started to rain as we left to come home. Found free street parking where we could stop all day, took flask of coffee & sausage baps for breakfast. DH bought fish & chips ( shared 1 portion as they were massive) & then he found 2 books, in the current series he's reading, in a CS for 50p each. So a very MSE day.  And to top it all off, we walked over 19000 steps!  Definitely did us good.
Hope everyone else had a good day.

  • That's great! I'm glad you had a good day and managed to avoid the rain. Very jealous of your fish and chips, they always taste better at the seaside :)

Yes, I prefer to be there out of season. I was brought up by the coast, and didn't move till I was 31. At the time I didn't regret it, but now I'm older I really miss the sea.  My sister still lives there, but doesn't go walking along as much as I would. Think I'd be down there every day if I could. We keep talking about retiring to the coast....but who knows.

I was born on the Somerset coast but we moved away when I was 2. I love the sea & think it's such a shame that I only lived nearby when I was too young to appreciate it. Since then, I've always lived a long way inland.

I first thought the Midlands was great when I moved here, but had no idea that as I aged I would miss the sea so much,  I can always remember my mum saying  "lets go for a walk along the front", when I was young, and I used to think how boring it was. Now I would give anything to just be able to walk down to the seafront every day. Having the day out like we did, just makes me realise even more how much I miss it. It might only be a 2 hr trip to the nearest coast, but its the petrol cost to factor in as well, which is why we don't do it so often, but like to make sure we can have seaside holidays. My dad still lives down south and at almost 92 years old, I am mindful of the fact he might not have many years left, so always have a small amount of money on back up just in case we suddenly need to go down there at short notice. Its 3hrs to where he is, and so not a cheap run.

I started off in the midlands but moved down here when I was 11. The beach isn’t on my doorstep but it’s only a 20 minute train ride and I live a 15 minute walk from the Station so it’s easy to go down there when I feel like it. I’m caught between countryside and coast, I love the sea but also love being out in the countryside too. Down here I have got the best of both so long as public transport doesn’t let me down
