1000's of EDF customers overcharged for gas?

That's precisely the point @pochase - the OP has a metric meter, but the conversion factor of x2.83 IS being applied - see photo of their bill above - so they have a metric meter but being billed for cubic feet. Hence an overcharge of a factor of 2.83. The problem was in getting CS staff to grasp this concept.1

I am complete aware of this.
I was answering to his complaint that there are no "units" on his EDF bill, which are clearly there.0 -

Yes, the result of the calculation has kWh shown as its unit, but the meter readings, 5437 and 5703. and also their difference, 266, have no units shown for them, whereas it would be better if they showed the units of volume, such as 100 x ft³ or m³1 -
ovo are the same. just checked our bill. we're ft and they look like they're doing it correctly but the bill doesn't actually show the calculation. it gives the formula for both m3 and ft3 but you have to work out yourself which number they used on your bill.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

I just checked mine too @Detail_Merchant - I'm with British Gas and it just calls them 'Gas units' and if you didn't know the difference, the formula itself isn't very helpful. I think the OP's point that he's unlikely to be alone in being caught out by this has some validity - his post, with a screen grab of his bill is not the first time that I've seen the same here.
I also notice on my latest BG bill that the box that contained the calculations in isn't included any more. Opening one at random from a couple of years ago it did state - in an arrow hang out from the table with the units used in - that "metric units used = 24m³" but that info isn't now included. In fact, the formula isn't even on the bill now - just "191 gas units at 39.7 calorific value". No wonder people are confused just now.0 -
BooJewels said:That certainly looks like a ft³ v m³ error to me - at April prices for my region and my own tariff, I get that to be a bill amount of around £270 - somewhere in line with the x2.83 error. At my current calorific value, I make that should be about 3015 kWh.
I wonder - and others who understand this more than me will hopefully comment - did you submit the leading 0 at the start of your submitted meter reads? I think ft³ meters only have 4 digits and your bill is showing 4 digit readings. I think you need to submit the leading 0 too.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks @EssexHebridean - I was clutching at straws for a possible explanation as to how it has arisen. My electricity is with Octopus and on their meter reading window it says to ensure that you include any leading 0s.1

Gov.uk website clearly states you only use 2.83 volume factor if meter is reading cubic meters0 -
Units is what you read from your meter, and they are shown.
What you want to see what volume unit they use (ft3 or m3). None of the suppliers I know shows this information.
Let's be honest, only somebody who knows the difference between the meter types will find the information in the bill helpful. And if somebody knows it they will check the formula used.
Unfortunately many users are not even aware that the readings they give are not KWh but volumes.0
