I’m currently in Stockholm basking in the luxury of district heating in friends’ apartment🇸🇪
Haven’t yet updated any Tapo firmware in case I inadvertently switch off fridge freezer.
Am keeping a very close eye on Hive CH app though. Don’t want my son to be too cosy, but would quite like him to survive so we can have our 1st UK Christmas together for more than 10 years😊. He’s also taking part in Octopus savings sessions😂

Have a fabulous time - what a lovely place to be.  My update did cause my computer to inadvertently reboot - largely because my finger was faster than my eye/brain combo.  But it did come straight back on by itself thankfully - so your freezer would be unlikely to even blink - but I can understand your concern.

It's strange that we can control things in our home from a distance.  I was on holiday in September and was up in the night when I couldn't sleep - got cramp or something - so I put my bedroom lights on at home, then one landing light, then another.  Left them on a few minutes and put them off in reverse order - as though I'd got up and gone to the loo.  Amused me anyway.

I relented and purchased two more today from Argos (2 for £18.99).

I've plugged the lamp into one and it tells me it is using 9w. I'm guessing this is it for the lamp and it won't go up and down. If that's the case I can already work out that if I have the lamp on for ten hours during peak rate (E7) it will cost me 4.5p or about £1.35 a month. I'm not sure if I can improve on that very much, a candle would probably cost more.

My original one is plugged into the fridge/freezer. It used 31.953 kWh during November and is now averaging less than 0.9 kWh/day since I turned the knob from High to Med. So about 50p a day or less. Still got half an eye out for a new fridge/freezer but not in a huge rush.

Third one is going to the socket which the TV and smart box plug into. No-one believes me that the TV is probably one of our bigger users (partner likes it on all the time).

TVs on all day long (my OH also likes the TV on constantly for "background noise") can add up. Ours uses about 140W when on, so can add up to more than the fridge/freezer per day. Not much you can do about the light. A 9W led is similar to an incandescent 60W bulb and not a huge load in the scheme of things.

  • FYI for anyone looking to get some there is currently a two pack of the Tapo P110 (the energy monitoring version) discounted on Amazon to £18.99, with an additional redeem on checkout voucher of £2, reducing the cost to £16.99 per pair / £8.49 each.
  • Thanks for the tip! Just bought the 2 pack.

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the P110 will carry out a scheduled task even without a WiFi connection. That appears to be true. My WiFi failed last night but the P110 still switched off at the set time, where other WiFi connected switches failed to do so.

I'm just reaching the stage of moving some of mine.  The one on the TV for example, I installed this to keep an eye on the TV which initially didn't go properly into standby when switched off, so the P110 allowed me to check, and also run a schedule to keep it switched off when not in use.
Now it's behaving I have data showing 2.73kWh used during November, but during that time the consumption of the P110 will have added a bit more than 0.75kWh.
Time to move it onto he tumble drier I think.

That's interesting - MrEH asked me a few days ago what would happen if the internet went down or simply the connection failed, and my assumption was that the scheduling would fail. Good to know that may not be the case.
