I don't recall being asked how much I planned to deposit when I opened this account. Seems a bit strange if some are and some aren't?

No. I didn't get asked that question either.
    Are you existing/previous Santander customers?

I didn't get asked that question - yes, I am a long standing customer - and my account isn't yet open!

I was briefly a Santander current account holder last November when I took advantage of their switch offer but I switched away three months later.

However, they didn't close down my internet access so I opened the eSaver logged on as an existing customer.

    2.75% annual or 2.72% monthly

What is the better option to maximise returns?

I had a current account in the past but closed it a while ago but was still able to log into online banking and opened this new account once logged in. Account opened straight away.

To maximise returns you would want annual but it's marginal (around 20p per year per £1000 invested)

I checked on this yesterday and found that 2.75% annual gives you a tiny bit more interest than 2.72% monthly (assuming the monthly interest remains in the account to compound). But it’s only a matter of a pound or two at most, even on balances of several thousand pounds or more. Obviously though, the larger the balance you keep in the account, the greater the difference will be!

You’ve all not been asked then because you’re existing or have been a Santander customer.

I’ve never been a Santander customer so I’m signing up from scratch - I don’t even have online access yet!
