I didn't get asked that question - yes, I am a long standing customer - and my account isn't yet open!1

I was briefly a Santander current account holder last November when I took advantage of their switch offer but I switched away three months later.XDA said:S_uk said:I don't recall being asked how much I planned to deposit when I opened this account. Seems a bit strange if some are and some aren't?

However, they didn't close down my internet access so I opened the eSaver logged on as an existing customer.1 -
2.75% annual or 2.72% monthly
What is the better option to maximise returns?0 -
I had a current account in the past but closed it a while ago but was still able to log into online banking and opened this new account once logged in. Account opened straight away.XDA said:S_uk said:I don't recall being asked how much I planned to deposit when I opened this account. Seems a bit strange if some are and some aren't?

If you deposit some money and leave it untouched for the whole year, then it should work out identical after 12 months. However, if the balance in the account is increasing over the year due to additional deposits, then you will end up with more interest by opting for annual (although the difference is likely to be very small). But if the balance is reducing over the year, you would earn more with monthly interest (again, difference will be very small).CooperSF said:2.75% annual or 2.72% monthly. I checked on this yesterday and found that 2.75% annual gives you a tiny bit more interest than 2.72% monthly (assuming the monthly interest remains in the account to compound). But it’s only a matter of a pound or two at most, even on balances of several thousand pounds or more. Obviously though, the larger the balance you keep in the account, the greater the difference will be!CooperSF said:2.75% annual or 2.72% monthly

You’ve all not been asked then because you’re existing or have been a Santander customer.xylophone said:I didn't get asked that question - yes, I am a long standing customer - and my account isn't yet open!I’ve never been a Santander customer so I’m signing up from scratch - I don’t even have online access yet!“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -
