You do not need to rush to give them a figure now. Write and tell them you need breathing space to get your budget sorted. You need to stop the knee jerk reaction to agree to repayment plans. You need a proper soa so you can see what you can afford to pay. Forget about F and Fs for now. You will not be offered much in the early stages of a DMP. Saving for emergencies and getting a budget together should be your priority and wait for defaults. Shawbrook aggressively chase but they will need to wait.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. As ES says. Remember - you are in charge of this process now - not your creditors. You need to reach the point where your budget actually allows for payments at all before you know what you are in a position to offer to anyone.

Hi ya,
Wrote to Shawbrook for breathing space.... Good thing to as just got quoted up to £600pm for energy from April (up from £370).
Havnet heard back but got a letter saying they had misrepresented their apr when loan applied and applied a different amount at singage so have refunded £250 off arrears and a courtesy payment of £25 off. The arrears as well.
No none else has written to me yet.1 -
Well done on the Shawbrook thing - interesting that they have suddenly decided they needed to review your account now too!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Oh happy days.
End of month and obviously money virtually gone. Needed some shopping. Wife goes to shop, for some reason doesn't budget, bank card says "no" get phone call fuming as had to put stuff back and embarrassed.
The whole 'scenario' then rears its head with the old "if we had the credit card" argument.
Silly me brought up that she went out and spent £57 of our food budget on a girlie night which is why we have fallen short and the whole "what's the point" argument.
Has been moping with a sour face for days.
Apologies for ranting here just annoys me as I've literlaly turned down every invite I've had the last 3 months, I've shaved my head so as to save my £18 a month haircut and despite sensitive skin and I'm using lidl face wash and shower gel!
We all have to tighten our belts and yet for some reason my wife thinks this isn't applicable to her!8 -
Rant away - it's a safe space for doing that.
Your wife is clearly still somewhat behind you in terms of the realities of your situation. In the long run, maybe the direct correlation between nights and no food might start to sink in a bit more - all you can do till then is stick to your guns and wait for her to catch up. Or ask her to suggest ways she can bring more money into the house for her nights out, although maybe not right this minute!
FWIW I have sensitive skin and I've always found the Aldi/Lidl sensitive face washes work well for me.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
Luke, I feel your pain. Does seem she's not as onboard as you are. She can't fritter valuable food cash on girly nights out... she needs her own pot for that.
This is the best place to rant. We're all behind you here. Your journey has been so hard, but you're so much in a better place than you would have been . I'm astounded she can't see this.

Now, let's look at FIRE2 -
Would it work to give her the cash for the food budget and her fun stuff and she could physically see the money? (Maybe just a week's worth at a time?) Or have it in envelopes marked for each pot so she'd have to physically take it from the food budget? It must be frustrating for you to be cutting back yourself for her to still be spending and frustrating for her to be (as she sees it) unecessarily restricted, so she needs to understand that there is a limit on the money. Credit cards have to be paid back, so it's not extra money.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline.
