    things change every day
giving people a time scale would just lead to more problems than it solves
i get people at the office at 10/11am because they have had their (before 1pm) special delivery yet

I have been following this thread on and off and have used Parcel2Go and DirectparcelDelivery in the past.... but I noticed that DPD site seems to be a bit erratic in availability and they seem to change their supplier on a regular basis (was ParcelForce when I used them and now Fedex).

A lot of the sites do not give the cover offered without logging in to try to find out so... does anyone know of a reputable courier service which offers insurance cover for up to about £200? In this case it is for a Wii and accessories - so not heavy and not too big.

ppw do up to £500 for £8.95
  • i don't think having say a 3 hour window of time would be unreasonable/unworkable, it would certainly be better than a 6 hour window.

my only other gripe with ppw is the international orders, which you don't pay for instantly, you have to wait for the sales team to get back to you. thats fine, if you are available when they get back to you.

all in all tho i've read very little negative feedback on ppw especially compared to parcel 2 go for instance.

^ The way we did it is just send them the funds first and follow up with email with booking details.

You will allways get people complaining. If it was run properly then it could work. It's just that companies don't want to invest in it because it isn't them who are inconvenienced when they have to take a day off work for deliveries.

    and what about collections?
ive seen companies offer late booking (via this thread) well into the mornings and IIRC right to lunch for some
so how do you predict delivery slots when you may have collection slots you wont know about until the driver is well into their run?
people cant have cheap deliveries, late collection bookings yet want premium features like time slots

I don't know how Royal Mail operates, but most couriers who I have had dealings with deliver in the morning, then do collections in the afternoon. I've allways thought it silly that they won't collect and deliver at the same time, but now I think about it they probably do it to keep to a time schedule.

well this is the thing,it can get complicated
especially with collections where size, weights etc can be unknown
a few full size packages soon fill up the van

with RM the collections are done later as its different shifts and the volume means you really do need empty vans
i did a collection run the other day where one collection was 65 mail sacks
after this you have to return to the mail centre, empty then get back to the collection
however that leaves you late for the scheduled post box collections

We aren't talking about postal services, we are talking about parcel deliveries. The courier should have an idea of the size and the weight of each parcel in advance.
