I mostly prefer home made soup too, except for tinned tomato soup - there is just something about that just being an easy comfort food! It doesn't have to be Heinz, Tesco own is good enough for us, as is the Coop (haven't tried many other brands as these stores plus Lidl are what we have on the island and I don't tend to bring soup home from the mainland!). I did try to make home made tomato soup once, but something in it made my stomach react very badly (will not give more info ha ha) and so I am kind of put off making it for that reason too.
I haven't bought any tins for a while, as we had a few stocked up, but will see how much it costs next time I am in the Coop/Tesco - will I likely get a shock?

Its still crazily mild here and I have plenty in my fridge to last me for at least 3 weeks. I am inspired to make more soup when the time comes. Freezer is full currently but I would imagine I can run it down by a few take-out containers ahead of Christmas and will then get mass-souping then.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

On plus side same price as last year and there is not many products you can say that aboutI often bought in the new year, back in the day when reductions were true reductions, and keep them in the cupboard under the stairs. Along with Christmas crackers , ready for the following year and sometimes I couldn't be bothered so they just sat there till I really fancied oneI adore Christmas pud, it no longer adores me5 -
The downside of making my own soup for many years is I no longer like tinned soup
I've even found Heinz tomato tastes too tinny and that was always a comfort food and a reminder of being ill as a child it was the only soup mum brought.
Lack of freezer labelling means soup roulette during the winter as I try to make enough to freeze a couple of portions so every few weeks I don't have to make any and can have a varietyLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin5 -
I’ve had an Xmas pud sat in the pantry for at least 3 years, we’re always too eager to get to the cheese and biscuits part of the celebration! I would happily eat it tho.
Got a £1.50 voucher off 48 Weetabix in the MyWaitrose app this week, thought I’d look at the price out of interest. £5.25! For 48! I think I’ll stick to the Aldi version even with the money off.Books read 2023 - 49/754 -

A tradition we like to follow is have a couple of empty marmalade jars to hand and put about a inch of cream in them, a couple of the younger ones get to give them a good shake. The look of delight when the cream turns from liquid to thickened is good fun.
And it's a money saving tradition.6
