This is what they said to me

The V20 has been revoked because it has not been updated with the new EPG rates. If you choose to stay on the V20 you will pay the higher rates. This is why it was revoked in the beginning.

They moved me from fix to svr as they said my fix (v20) couldn't come down further to match the EPG rates. Now I'm even more frustrated they couldn't do this as would've given me certainty for the next year.
But didn't they also say "if you don't want us to do this - get in touch and we'll reverse the change" ?

So you'd be paying less than your original fix but more than the present EPG, and still  have the old contract terms.

Did Sainsburys not have a statement on their website stating that all fixed rates would be reduced down to the government guarantee - or am I imagining that? If I’m right, surely they shouldn’t be moving people onto their variable tariff?
Yes, that statement was on the Eon Next website.  They said they would make the changes and customers didn't need to contact them.
I'm on v19 and my online account is still showing c. 45p/kWh, instead of the EPG.  On the Eon next community forum, it's said to be too difficult to program this change!!
No replies to email or Twitter DM.  Absolutely shoddy service

No, reduced BY the government guarantee. So if you were on a fixed rate @ 60p you would pay instead 43p, if you wanted lower such as 34p then you needed to move to the SVT. If you were financially worse off on your fixed rate they would then offer to move you onto the SVT.

Thanks for the replies - although the contradictions probably highlight the confusion! I thought they did say they’d reduce it down to the guarantee but the statement on the website now is a little less committing.

They changed me to the variable rate when I queried why my rates were higher than the guarantee - I didn’t directly ask them to but it did seem the easier thing for them to do. They didn’t tell me they were changing me to the variable rate until I went into my account to check.
  • As others have experienced, I was on 1 Year Smooth Renew v21 and although the Gas had been eventually reduced down to the EPG for my area (South east) my Electric rate was still some 15p above.
I waited a bit but with nothing else apparently happening I had to contact them via twitter direct message to query. Was asked if I wanted to go on to the SVT to which I agreed. It was dealt with quickly although the DD amount that was taken today is significantly more than I was quoted!

I have no idea what tariff I'm on. I switched to SRv20 but my online account doesn't say anything under "Tariffs". I assume I'm still on SRv20 as they haven't contacted me (and I can't get through to them on the phone) and I hope to still be so after April next year.

At one point I could've stayed on the v20 even though the rates were higher than EPG. But the latest message from them said that tariff was 'revoked' and they had cleared it from my account, so there was no going back on the fix option. I then asked can you offer me any fix which matches EPG and they said no

They’ve now told me all people on the fixed rates were automatically moved onto the variable rate. This is clearly not true as I wasn’t moved until I asked why my rate was higher than the guarantee but I’m also not convinced they should be allowed to do that anyway.

Finally seeing some movement in my online account...

I'm on Smooth Renew v20 (from 1st Oct), in the South West, and the tariff details are now showing as:

Gas: 10.80p/kWh (down from 16.23p/kWh, so 5.43p/kWh taken off) and 27.22p/day (same as originally set)
Electricity: 42.67p/kWh (down from 60.51p/kWh, so 17.84p/kWh taken off) and 43.39p/day (same as originally set)

I'll need to do some sums to see whether this tariff or the EPG-capped SVR is better, whilst also trying to factor in the unknown of what might happen in April!
