Well it’s 1 st Oct and I expected to hear from Sainsburys that my tariff that is higher than the price promise was now at new unit and st charges rates.

As it is, nothing at all. Old tariff showing and no email to say otherwise.

anyone else with Sainsburys/EON got this problem? I’m on smooth renew v17.

  • They have not yet updated what it shows online.  Have a look at the many other people who have asked this question in the last few days.

It is clear what you will be paying.

Thanks - Good to know they’re communicating with some. I’m wondering if it’s based on billing date or some other criteria as to when they communicate.

‘we are currently working to adjust our prices to the new government guidelines. This is a process that can take a little while. You will be only charged the prices based on the new price cap. If you do have a specific query about your account, please feel free to DM us.”

I do find myself feeling rather cynical about the fact that they seem to be able update their systems in a short space of time when prices are set to rise, but can’t manage it when a cap means they have to reduce what they intended to charge.

It does make you wonder. At the end of the day, they cannot charge any more, but I don’t think they’re falling over themselves to meet the 1/10 “deadline” (as-was)

People will worry about seeing the old tariffs and the energy suppliers will end up spending more time addressing those concerns than if they’d just got the job done and systems updated overnight and ready for 01/10.

  • I'm with EonNext and my tarriff hasn't changed either although it isn't a very high fixed tariff so wasn't sure what to expect. I'm on Economy 7 too so I've been waiting and waiting to see if I should stay on fix or come off depending on the E7 tariff for my area and received no communications from them whatsoever.

Its possible they may just apply a rebate on your bill, but I can understand the problem posed here, there probably should be something on the dash showing adjusted unit rates or a message saying rebate will be applied to bill to avoid confusion.

Communication is absolutely key.  These companies cant just assume people know whats going on.

I have not heard anything from Sainsbury's energy either yet, currently on V18 fix until 7 Oct and then the new 1 year Fix Smooth renew V2I (missed out on V20) chosen before the Government's new energy Cap.

On checking my account online they do seem to have changed the prices from when I fixed as it was initially £314.25 a month (for some reason estimated annual cost not shown on screenshot I took), if I stayed on the SVR it would £145.55 (estimated annual cost £1,746.59) but this was not taking into account the original Price Cap October rises.  Using Martin's calculator at the time he strongly recommended I the fix as there are no exit fees.

This has now changed to V21 fix price £247.25 (no estimated annual cost showing) or the SVR £272.40 (annual estimated cost £3,268.78).

It seems on looking cheaper to stay on the fix.  On looking at the figures they are using to work out my annual estimated cost they are quoting 3,454 kwh for electric and 8,365 kwh for gas usage.  I am not convinced these figures are accurate as when I check my actual usage for the past year since I joined Sainsburys my electric usage is 3,013 and 7,787.9 kwh gas (689 units), this is for 358 days so 7 days short of a whole year.  I did an average for the 7 missing days to make it a yearly figure and got 3,071 kwh electric and 7,940 kwh gas.

This still seems a big difference, have I worked out my figures correctly before I contact them?

    Thanks

  • Don’t try and compare estimated monthly costs.  Compare the unit rates and standing charges to make your decision.

Their estimate of usage looks fine to me.

It was a relatively mild winter last year. This is factored into their figures. They increased my actual consumption by 500kwh  for gas and 50kwh electric compared to my actual usage. Fair enough.

The SVR/EPG will be much cheaper than Smooth Renewv21. Looks like They haven't updated the SVR correctly.
