It's pretty obvious that the meter is incrementing on it's own and especially as it's a known fault I'm sure the certificate will state that. Once they have the certificate they will negotiate with you, so if you feel £100 is a good deal take it, if you think you have lost more than that wait.
Overall I think I've lost far more than £100 which I hope to recoup once the test results are in.

As a goodwill gesture I'm inclined to accept it I think.
  • Hi,
they are offering £100 now, hoping you will bite, just like a bookie offering a 'cash out' part way through a football match, it's a gamble.
Will they adjust your previous bills if/when meter found faulty?

They've said that they will. The 100 is a separate goodwill gesture due to the time the process is taking.

Do make sure they don't sneak something in with £100 gesture to say that it fully closes the matter.

Make really clear you accept the £100 as a goodwill gesture and still expect the bill to be recalculated if/when the meter is found to be faulty

  • Wait and see what the Ombudsman rules assuming that isn't the full verdict yet. It's unlikely that they will go lower, and they may go higher if they feel it's warranted. The incorrect information won't go in Bulb's favour, either. My gut feeling would be that Bulb wouldn't be offering that £100 if they felt that the Ombudsman wasn't likely to go higher.

I was told by EDF yesterday that the average Ombudsman award is £60. I accepted £75 for being messed about over an issue with my electricity.

i'd be careful as well as you might want to open an ombudsman case when it comes to recalculating there bill (if you disagree with the period they use for the calculation)

if i was you i'd actually ask the ombudsman to no fault close the case now so you can wait for the actual results to be returned and bill to be recalculated. then go to the ombudsman with the full offer from bulb if your not happy with it. easier i think than doing this little bit now (complaining about the testing delay) then going back later (complaining about the fix/estemated bill for the faulty meter)
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

I was awarded £100 in my recent case against UW, and EDF cheerfully offered the same amount yesterday in a telephone conversation - albeit that one hadn't got to the Ombudsman yet. I wasn't given any suggestion of the average amount - in fact it would be fair to say the chap I spoke with almost took my hand off at that!  I'm more than happy as I've not expected anything, and frankly hadn't even decided if I'd bother to escalate it allowing that I've already left them.

I've accepted the 100 quid on the proviso it's kept separate to any further refunds that may be issued once the test is complete.
