Frankly I would not be surprised if the government announced that the second instalment will not go ahead, they have shown how they hate the poor in the last few days, and I would not be surprised if they didn't use the excuse that the £650 was needed in April but since the price cap has been announced it is no longer relevant so the second payment will not go ahead.

I despise this government and I really hope I am wrong. I have been in tears this afternoon literally as my daughter who is pregnant can barely survive on universal credit now, and I have run out of money to help her as an oap on pension and pip, and yet there is talk they will cut it in real terms again our pension and uc.

I know this is a forum not about policy, but I fear for the future, for all of us. I am glad I only have a few years left to live, but I weep, literally for the young.
I would suggest you write to your MP now, especially if they are a Conservative MP, and make your points to them. The more unpopular benefit cuts are with constituents, the more likely MPs will make that view known. If you have a Conservative MP, tell them they will not get your vote next time if they do not uprate your benefits in line with inflation.

If you are on just the state pension and on pip then you should be eligible for Pension Credit (if you also have under £16k in savings). If on pip you will just have had £150 in your account, plus the £66 on your energy account (for 6 months) Plus £324 already with £326 on the way, (if on PC) then you shouldn’t be paying council tax or rent …….so actually pensioners with pip and pension credit are much better off than most…..and of course then there’s the household fund from the council (ours gave us , £175, then £20 then this week £60)………I have 2 daughters I help, one with both the parents working who literally get nothing from the state and the other with both not working who are entitled to most of the money on offer. Oh and I forgot I think all pensioners are getting an extra £300 on top of the winter fuel thing (which I think is £200), and then if on pension credit we get the Warm Home thingy of £150 as well…..so all in all in this crisis I feel the Tories have helped us “poor” pensioners really well…..

Thank you for your helpful comments. I .
Shall indeed be writing to my MP. Sadly here where I live we have one of the most safe conservative seats in the country. It was said that if they pinned a blue rosette to a kipper people would vote for it here ... But anyway we don't give up hope.

We are mixed age disabled pensioners, so we do not do at all as well as you suggest.

Until I retired last year I was on ESA and my wife is on pip. Since I became a pensioner we have lost in total 45 pounds a week .. including being less entitled to council tax rebates and cannot qualify for pension credit. Instead we get a small amount towards our rent in the form of universal credit which only pays about three quarters of it, whereas before I retired housing benefit paid it all.

We used to only pay 40% council tax now we pay 60% because pension is not ignored as income if you are a mixed age couple here where we live.

Every pound we get in pension is taken in full off of universal credit. We do not get any uc except the partial rent pmt. It is true we got £150 and we'll get the winter fuel allowance and although it has not arrived yet I'm sure we will get the £400 in monthly stages, but all that is a one off .. don't make the mistake of thinking all pensioners are doing well ... we certainly are not, and younger people on universal credit are certainly not doing well .. and yes I am angry but I'm actually more depressed that I cannot help someone I love, I'm sure you mean well but you're a bit off track.

Many pensioners are not eligible for Pension Credit because their income is as little as a pound or two above the threshold.  They won’t get most of the extra help this winter.  I tried to apply to our council for the household fund but the website said they had already spent their funds. If you got 3 payments you were luckier than most
