Combi microwave ordered and should be with me by the end of the week. First oven recipe suggestions?

ETA: I've just found this online, plenty of goodies within: https://www.miele.co.uk/media/ex/gb/cookbooks/Microwave_combi _oven_cookbook.pdf

Aren't air fryers just a fad like Breville sandwich toasters once were?
I thought that, but it does seem that quite a lot of people who have them do use them regularly, which I suppose is a sign that they are here to stay.
There is a lot of hype around the cost savings ( minimal), and versatility ( limited) and at the end of the day they are just small fan ovens. However they seem handy/good for preparing certain types of foods for one or two persons.
Will soon find out for real, as we are getting a medium sized one as a Xmas present !
I was tempted by one but all the ads I see for them have the trays full of fattening stuff I would never eat
Yes. It depends what you like to cook.
Fan oven with hob on top for me as I cook mostly from scratch. Stirfry, curry, batch cooking etc.
A small airfyer may be useful as an addition as occasionally I'm preheating the oven for one item.
  • Well it's been sitting idle for the last fortnight, but I have finally decided to test my new toy this evening by making a bread pudding in a silicone Bundt pan. 25 mins in, it does not smell of bread pudding, it just smells of plastic  :/

Well it was in for 120mins at 150°C yesterday and flopped out perfectly. But it looks a little anaemic and moist, despite the skewer test. I'm going to stick it back in for another 30 mins now.

It dried out marginally after another 2 x 30min sessions at 150 but I would be lying if I said it tasted delicious I used German rye bread that was otherwise unpalatable, too many variables involved in Experiment #1 I am guessing. I'll keep until the end of the week in case I crave something sweet - there's no way I'll be raiding the cake tin for seconds on this occasion - and then bin it.

On the plus side, it may just cure me of my cake addiction! Aversion therapy :)

This is my problem with MV baking, one can mess up an already perfectly established recipe! I only bake cup/mug recipes in the microwave. Don’t want to put all the effort and then get whatever comes out!

  • I am eating it a sliver at a time with my coffee and it is putting any cravings I have for food to bed on account of the fact it is sitting in my stomach like lead.

I don’t say this very often, but looking at that makes me glad I’m Coeliac😊

The rye bread element takes a bit of getting used to but it actually tastes better after resting for a couple of days. But you're right, not for you! Its a horrible condition to live with uncontrolled.

I’ve been controlling it since 1975☹️. So much easier now though can be expensive.
Back on topic. I bought a Which?recommended Combi microwave several years ago. Tried the grill & combi a few times, without success so gave up & don’t use those functions. Perhaps with more recent technology they work better?
