they are charging me another £96.80 it was by the way thats why i phoned them today and guess what they agreed with me they cancelled the £96.80 and said forget about that and just took the £152 a month that i pay and am in credit by £138 that is what i was trying to tell you people but some people just dont want to listen thank you sparky grad but dont think you know it all please.[Deleted User] said:They are not charging you “another £92”.They are saying “we think you have used £96.85 from your last £152, but we’re not sure exactly”
It’s just written strangely because they don’t know if it’s £96.12, £96.50, £96.85 or £97.20 yet.0 -
i phoned them today and they said they were wrong that is what i have been trying to tell you people but you dont want to here am in credit all the time never indebit they should not have put a provisional transaction on my account am paying over the odds now there tying to justified the £152 am paying amonth which is wrong .grn99 said:irvo76 .... Maybe look at it this way. Every month you pay an amount onto your account. This is crediting it with that £152.10. Each month (or thereabouts) they or you take a reading as to what you have consumed, This is the amount they are talking about and this is amount subtracted from the "monthly credit".
The resulting balance is the true balance of your account. The "provisional" wording is simply saying that the exact amount you've used is being calculated before applying it (subtracting it) that from the balance on your account.
The only thing fixed is the unit price of the energy and duration of the fix. How many units of energy you use (e.g. Kilowatt hours) will vary the cost to you each month.-1 -
I’m glad you think you’ve sorted it.
For everyone else who might come across this thread - ignore the OP’s posts and you will get your answer.8 -
but i tried to tell you and you were all saying it was not a payment or it must be what you owe thats my point no one knew what was happening thats why in the end people should just phone there company and get an explanation off them which i will do from now on i dont know everything but some people on here think they do thanks0

We said it was not a payment, the E.ON community forum said it was not a payment, and now the E.ON Next customer services have said it was not a payment.
Sounds good to me.6 -
There is something good to takeaway from this post.
The best people to talk about energy queries is your energy supplier. Once the Original Poster did this they were happy with the response and understand the process now.
Sometimes this forum is a little overbearing with various "expert" opinions fired in from different points of views.
The way this fell into sarcasm and poking the OP does not help people coming to this board with their queries and issues. Disappointingly a number of people that I see as good contributors have let themselves down with their comments but at least it looks like the moderators have cleared some of those up.

Given the OP's responses, I'm not sure they do. The entire thread has been built on misunderstanding of terminology, At least they now appear happy with the situation.Mstty said:There is something good to takeaway from this post.

And particularly when there is such confusion, and someone else might have the same question, having conflicting, incorrect and misleading information remaining here unchallenged and uncorrected is unhelpful at best.5 -
As others have pointed out, there seems to be a deal of confusion about E.oN Next’s use of provisional charges whereas those of us with Octopus seem not to be that bothered (both suppliers use the Octopus billing system)
https://community.eonnext.com/threads/1339-What-s-a-provisional-transaction
What happens with Octopus is that once the calorific value for gas has been confirmed, the provisional charge disappears from My Account until the actual statement has been raised. The provisional amount then re-appears in My Account as a line entry ‘You have been charged £x for gas’. I have yet to see the actual charge for gas used to be any different from the provisional charge.
