I don’t think it matters what we say - OP refuses to understand.
Not really sure how much clearer we can make it than “this is not an extra payment”3 -
They have been told exactly the same on the Eon Next community forum. Quite a few posts about it. I suspect the problem is that people are now actually looking at their accounts. There has been mention that this is the first time that it has taken more than a day or 2 for the provisional figure to be replaced with the actual amount, likely some sort of data glitch.2

i do understand it is an extra payment as it shows me on my account saying there going to take the £152 i pay a month then i have another message saying you have a provisional transaction of £96.80 is pending and will be reviewed then finalised i can see it on my account its you that are not understanding me thankyou.0

They are going to take the £96.80 (or a very slightly different amount once the calorific value has been confirmed) from the "pot" of money that is sitting in your energy account already. The "pot" contains all the money you have paid by DD. Each time a bill is issued they deduct the amount from this "pot".
What they are NOT going to do is take any more money from your bank account.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

irvo76 .... Maybe look at it this way. Every month you pay an amount onto your account. This is crediting it with that £152.10. Each month (or thereabouts) they or you take a reading as to what you have consumed, This is the amount they are talking about and this is amount subtracted from the "monthly credit".
The resulting balance is the true balance of your account. The "provisional" wording is simply saying that the exact amount you've used is being calculated before applying it (subtracting it) that from the balance on your account.
The only thing fixed is the unit price of the energy and duration of the fix. How many units of energy you use (e.g. Kilowatt hours) will vary the cost to you each month.0 -
(Particularly ror those following this thread who are not Eon Next customers)
As a current dual-fuel Eon Next customer (but not one employed directly or indirectly by them!) the effect of the 'provisional' transaction has been twofold in my experience:- Because Eon Next could not work out the exact cost of the gas portion of my September statement they were unable to produce said statement. In my case, after contacting CS, they pulled another read from my Smart Meter and were able to produce the statement with accurate reads very quickly. A new provisional amount was raised (the old provisional amount thus disappeared) and once the new provisional was applied to my account, now becoming a transaction, this provisional now also disappeared. After the gas provisional became an actual transaction, the balance reflected my account accurately.
- If a provisional is stuck for more than a few days, the likihood is that no bill statement will happen until another customer reading is entered online OR contact is made directly to Eon Next via its usual channels. I suspect something must have happened in Eon's system for there to be multiple reports of 'stuck provisionals' (mostly gas) for statement generation in the last month. For those at Eon Next who pay by variable direct debit we need these provisionals to be verified and turned into actual transactions in a timely and efficient way so as to generate a statement leading. to an accurate balance. leading to an accurate DD calculation for that month. To be fair they have been efficient in the last year (up till September for me that is)

E.oN Next's billing system has been purchased/leased from Kraken Technologies: part of the Octopus Energy Group.
Using Octopus as an example of the way that Kraken works, charges show in My Account before the monthly statement is raised. Often Gas is posted as pending whilst it waits for confirmation from the data collector that the correct gas CV has been used in the volume to kWh conversion. These charges then appear on the monthly statement.
The OP seems to believe that the £152 a month that he is paying E.oN Next covers the cost of all the energy that he is using so there should be no further charges. If he looks at his monthly statement he will see something like this:
Note: at that time my monthly DD payment was set at £1 per month because I had a high credit balance that I was reducing. For the period, 28th Nov to 27th December, I was charged £25.35 for the electricity that I used. This charge was deducted from my credit balance (including the £1 payment) which left me with a reduced credit balance.
Using the OP's logic, no charges for electricity used should have been raised.
Let me say it one final time. The £152 per month is NOT a charge for energy used. It is money added to your account balance from which charges are deducted.
Or put another way. I pay £50 into my bank account in cash; my bank account increases by £50. I go into a pub and buy a round of drinks which comes to £25. I use my card to pay for the round: my bank account balance then goes down by £25. This is how energy DD payments work: you are paying your energy charge for energy used from your energy account balance.1 -
Which confirms what everyone is saying, including eon next staffers on their own forum, but OP won't accept

I stopped reading after the OP’s first two replies. Frankly it was immediately apparent he was never going to accept what he was being told. It’s now Tuesday. He can now call them direct and frustrate them instead1
