  • We are telling you what that message usually means.  Don’t get angry with us and tell us we are wrong without giving more details so we can help you.

When they take a smart meter reading and are missing some information, it gets listed as a provisional payment.  We’ve told you this.

Why won’t you tell us the meter readings?

Thanks for referencing this thread.  Nothing more to add to 'provisional transactions' than was posted by myself and others over there.

I suspect there are other things going on with the OP and they are possibly getting confused with what they pay each month (the direct debit amount) and the account balance after the bill is raised.  The other thing to be aware of is whether Eon Next are actually using the OP's smart meter data to calculate each monthly bill leading to the calculation of the account balance.  I mention this as it took Eon Next a good 6 months before they were able to starting lifting the smart meter data (@ OP,  sorry I don't know why it took them so long).  Before that I was religiously submitting manual monthly reads on the due date and subsequent bill production was accurate.  So the OP needs to check on their statements (contained within their online account) and check that the recent bills all have 'Smart Meter' recorded against their gas and electric meter readings.  If they don't then they need to do as suggested above and manually enter accurate readings online in case Eon Next have been used estimates in your bill production AND/OR make contact directly with Eon Next's customer services as you have tried to do.  So work out if the account balance is correct and where it should be for this time of year.  It may be that your actual usage requires an uplift in your direct debit amount even with the EPG and the £400.
  • I've had one of these sitting on my account for more than a month now. I submitted usual monthly readings in mid-August, and instead of a bill being produced straight away and the amount due being deducted from my balance, this provisional transaction was notified. It's still there. I have since submitted readings in mid-September and that bill was created straight away and the sum due as a result of that has been deducted from my balance.

As has already been said, this is because they do not yet have a calorific value for gas for a particular period so cannot produce an accurate bill, although it's likely to be within pennies of the provisional figure. They might have been better off just producing a bill as usual and then making any minor adjustment at a later date, but for some reason that isn't the way they have done it. It isn't an additional charge.

  • I know the OP is frustrated but it also works in the same way for people that respond in the forums....

To the OP. all the help and suggestions that might alleviate your frustration have been laid out here and at the Eon Next community forms.  Not much more that I can add.  Hope you are able to sort yourself out by a call to CS at Eon Next as the forums seemingly cannot.

OK. Just to repeat what must have been posted before. The £152 per month is NOT fixed: it is just money that you pay on account from which charges for actual energy used are deducted. Think of it as putting money into a 'piggy bank'.

Your Fixed tariff is only FIXED in terms of the contract duration; standing charge and unit price. If you use 1000kWh of gas in a given period then the supplier will raise a charge for the gas used. This charge is deducted from your account balance. Similarly, if you use 5000kWh of gas a higher charge will be deducted from your account balance.

The supplier will monitor your actual usage and it may decide to review your £152 month payment. Most customer accounts have a credit balance at this time. This credit balance reduces during the winter when your monthly energy charges will exceed your £152/month payment.

In sum, the supplier is NOT charging you twice. The £96 is the cost of the energy used which will be deducted from the money that you have already paid into your account.
