For the last month we averaged 8kwh per day, but 2 adults 3 teenagers and too much screen time.

After other threads on here I'm curious now to how much we'll save without the eldest being sat at the PC for hours on end and the x-box will go back to weekends only in a few days time.
i tested the xbox a while back. i think for netflix it was about 45w an hour and playing games about 150w. 15w on standby and 0.5w when turned off. the tv used about another 75w. im rounding those numbers as i can't remember the exact figures.

we worked it to to be about 1kwh every 4 hours of playing. not a huge amount (and I don't begrudge it. i like to play myself sometimes) but when our annual daily average is 4.5 then its relatively a lot and worth being aware of if you're truing to work out where your energy is going.
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

3kwh per day, rises to around 3.5kwh average if we do clothes washing and ironing depending on how many loads in the washing machine.
Definitely the electric kettle consumes more so we are making a cuppa via a good old whistling kettle on the gas hob.
Baths instead of electric showers and we've ditched the second freezer, that was consuming too much, around 4-5 kwh per week.
3 bed semi, gas Combi boiler for heating and hot water for 2 retirees.
Our bill is estimated to top out at £2k come October cap prices according to calcs,  its currently £1150 on a variable with Eon.next.
  • 3.22 KwH p/d in August, which appears to be typical summer usage for me.  Single adult, 2-bed house, gas CH & hob and electric ovens.  I do about 4 washing loads p/w, ironing, charge work and personal laptops and phones.  I haven't used the kettle so much as it's been hot, did run a fan at times and I occasionally use the dishwasher - perhaps a couple of times a month.  I have had visitors at weekends a lot, so was washing more bedlinen and towels than usual.  I expect my electric usage to go up in the winter as I use the ovens and tumble dryer more when it's cold and wet, and it will be interesting to see what effect that has once the new rates come into force in October.

For the "low" consumption items (smart TV, set top box, PC, games consoles and monitor) id seriously consider an inverter off a leisure battery with a solar panel charger via an extension cable to the items, the only fly in the eye is needing a pure sine wave inverter,,,,

lights i cant worry about as we only have 2 x 100w that are on any length of time

Washing loads down from 1 per day to alternate days and for drying im putting up a canopy/cover to create a drying area, ive a big shed that might get used too if i move the cross trainer that hasnt done any training

This is siege mentality time, if i had a water meter id be sinking a well and saving rain water in a butt

  • (a kettle wouldnt need a pure wave AC supply OR, get a 12v kettle)

Got ours down to 14kwh a day according to the meter - however in reality we also used 12kwh per day of solar, - and of course we were away for a week.
    I think....
  • We have added a slow cooker to the kitchen line up...170w about 5p/hour when heating upp

Was also told about a cooker called a Remoska
