I remember well the three day week, not having leccy for several hours every day, heating going off, no lights etc  but we didn't all wring our hands and cry ourselves to sleep. We just organised ourselves and survived, probably better than a lot of people nowadays who want everything handed to them on a plate
Yeah, you had Rod Hull and Emu too but I wouldn't wish them onto society.

The whole point of society is to EVOLVE, not go backwards.

And I was looking forwards to retirement - I am almost 59 years old
I,ve been retired for 22 years but not reached the stage of miserableness that you seem to have achieved - its gonna be long and hard if you dont buck up a bit.

I quite like a powercut brings out the Bear Grylls in me.

And by that I mean popping to the shed with my torch to get the camping stove out to put the pan and water on to make our power cut cup of survival tea, one breakfast one earl grey.

I then consider whether it's worth getting the generator out for a whirl or shall we light the multi fuel burner and put some soup on top.

The benefit of a planned outage is no trip to the shed!!!! Bonus
That's made me think. the gas for the camping stove is in the garage, must ensure I remember where exactly it is so I'm not stumbling about looking for it.
We are prepared for some sort of load shedding, at least if it's timetabled a we can have everything ready.
We are fortunate that we only installed central heating last year, so the stoves were the main source of winter heating and layers of clothing, heating the person are still the order of the day.

Is that not on the presumption that the SVR stays the same as it is now? And will be amended as the SVR changes?

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Ah OK I was presuming you were on a fix.

No - std variable (octopus flexible)

I take it that prediction is based on current prices...not what's coming for Oct, Jan, Apr??

I can't see a DD of £85 is going to sufficient, going forwards.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
  • Yes, I think that MOD need to "Enable Crystal Ball Mode" to see a true prediction with Octopus.

That's based on the current rate only.  You need Beta mode enabled to see their rough estimations with the cap rises.  Or wait until after the accouncement and see what it says then.
