Oh! You've gone, just when I was going to tell you what happened! Well, all I can say is [strike]thank goodness for Cadburys![/strike] no, I mean, ..well, it didn't all go strictly to plan...
First of all, I couldn't get the thickness right - I have no idea how the 'real eggs' get that 'shelf' needed to put your joining stuff (melted chocolate, superglue, etc) on to. The walls of mine stubbonly remained 'paper thin' despite my various attempts at thickening them up.
So, I made another (plus some other easter chocolate shapes as an 'insurance policy') and this time FILLED both halves with chocolate! This isn't as bad as it sounds, because my egg halves were only 3" high - not great big full size things! They fitted together great, put a bit of melted chocolate in the middle as glue and whos to know? (Actually, it weighs a ton so that might be a bit of a giveaway! :rotfl: ) This one I'm thinking would be looked upon as a 'display egg', but I suspect it may get the occasional nibble taken out of it!
Ah Well! At least I've got my insurance policy chocie shapes to fall back on - not to mention the full size Cadbury eggs I got from Woolies today just in case... :rotfl:

Explain woman. You mean its a solid huge egg. I like the sound of that.A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
Yep! Thats the word I was looking for - 'solid' but no, not huge. 3" is not huge! (Ooer! -
:rotfl: )

Lidls have some easter baking trays in at the moment. I can't find them on their website but I'll try and take a picture of mine later.
I'm going to have a go at making some choccy treats with them but worried as I'm not going to be able to temper the chocolate as I don't have a thermometer. Will it turn into a complete disaster?:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
I wasn't going to make any eggs as i couldn't find any moulds and I was too disorganised to order any online. However a friend phoned me yesterday to say she had found some egg and rabbit moulds in Tesco. she is bringing them round today so guess what I will be doing later and tomorrow...:D depending on the size of them i might fill the two egg halves and stick them together making a solid egg. will let you know how i get on!saving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200

I would like to say that if you possibly can, try and make hollow eggs! (or rabbits bunbun2) The solid ones are very heavy, tricky to eat and very unhealthy!
I'm going to research how I should have done it last night, because its still bugging me this morning, even if I am sorted with my Cadbury 'back-up' eggs. If I find any good info or links I'll put them on here. We need to crack this egg problem!I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderfulMarilyn Monroe0 -

I haven't seen the moulds yet and it depends what size they are as to what I do iyswim:D if they are tiny ie a couple of cm them I wil make them solid (like the ones you buy in nets) if bigger I will make them hollow - does that make sense! the rabbits (again depending on size) I was just going to make one solid half (like you buy in nets). will let you know what I plan to do when i have got the moulds:Dsaving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200

i used to do this with my mum every year for the family eggs.
Sticking the egg halves to gether is the easy bit.
Leave the egg in the mould
Fill the egg with the goodies,
use a heated knife to melt the chocolate on the edge of the egg, then put the other half of the egg on the top (also still in the mould)
Put back in fridge, then carefully remove moulds later.
If you don't have seperate moulds, then i can get messy, so leave one half in the mould
