Help!! Air source heat pump costs

The immersion refers to the electric element not the tank, The heat pump uses a water coil to heat the tank. You will confuse yourself and others saying you had the 'immersion' on for 24hr rather than simply the 'hot water'.
And do make sure the is no 'boost' setting topping up the water temp, Possibly hidden in a installer menu. Most people are fine with a water temp of 45c anyway.-1 -
My suggestion would be to turn off the heatpump completely (at the consumer unit if you dont have any other way of doing it) and the do a bit of sleuthing to find out what is using all your leccy. in the rest of the house
A plug-in energy monitor can help find out the consumption of stuff and pinpoint items that seem to be taking a disproprtionate amount or even using power when you thought they were off. Once you've sorted out where its all going you can concentrate on what the heatpump is using because you'll then be able to discriminate its consumption from everything else.
For instance we had a couple of powered recliner armchairs - just being plugged in they use 15watts each, that was 0.75kwh a day. Most stuff gets turned off at the plug, including the hob and oven unless it's being used, the same for the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher., TV etc . All our lights are LED. It sounds like we are paranoid but we aren't, we just turn stuff off when it's not in use.
As we are at home during the day we are both using computers, my hobby is 3D printing and my wife has an embroidery machine, all of which use energy throughout the day, so I guess that you've got some stuff which is using more than it's fair share.
When you've sorted everything else out you can then look at how the heatpump is set up and perhaps tweak some of it's settings to optimise it. but as said previously you need to understand how it operates to get the best out of it especially if you are trying to use it a bit like a boiler for short high temperature heating cycles, like when you get up or come home from work.
Tell us the model number and perhaps a photo of the controller, so we know know what you've actually got (a Daikin, or Ecodan or Mitsubishi, doesn't really give us any info about what you've got or how its configured). Have you got radiators, where is your thermostat etc,Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Thanks again for your reply. I am pretty sure we have everything off (except the dishwasher and washing machine as the socket isn’t accessible)Yesterday usage ended on 14.61kwh. I didn’t do any washing yesterday.
I will report back once I’ve turned off the heat pump for a day at the weekend.0 -
Try to find out what your background consumption is by reading the leccy meter just before you go to bed and again first thing in the morning when you get up before you've made your early morning cuppa or switched anything on.
Anything over 2kwh (with the heatpump off) over eight hours (250watts per hour) needs investigating. Even with the heatpump on but not heating or producing hot water I'd still expect less than 3kwh overnight.
Break the day up into four or eight hour blocks - read the meter and check what you are using and what's turned on or off to try an narrow it down. Readi t before you go to work and when you get home.
We are currently using around 7-8kwh (include heat ingthe hot water with the heatpump) but Sunday we go back from holiday and the washing machine and dryer got hammered on Sunday afternoon and Monday when we used 12.5 and 11.5 respectively
We can get power consumption data from our smart meter in 30 minute segments using either the IHD or for more historical info using the Bright App which makes it really easy to correlate consumption with what's equipment is in use.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
My overnight usage midnight to 7am is 0.5 kwh and my fridge and freezer are over 20 years old.0

Mines about 1.2kwh for eight hours with the heatpump off.
We are running a 12 year old upright fridge and an upright freezer, Sky box, Router, Optical terminal unit for broadband, three surveillance cameras, a couple of clocks and other stuff (Dect phones and possibly my wife's computer & printer coz she doesn't bother shutting them down), microwave oven and an energy monitor
Our present consumption with a couple of laptops as well and a garden fountain which I didn't notice thats been turned on is 260wattsNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
We aren’t able to view usage in segments on our smart meter that I can see unfortunately. Only current/ day/ previous day, week month, year so far.It was just over 2kw when I went to make a coffee this morning. I had already had a shower at this time.0

Neither are as real-time as the IHD, but allow previous days to be looked at more granularly.1 -
