I survived the late finish, and even got home and in bed in time to go to the gym this morning as usual. I even survived the last 90 mins of work this afternoon as the only person in my role. It got pretty busy, and every time I opened my office door after an appointment I had a little queue in the corridor of colleagues who needed me before my next appointment. Then a frantic last 20 minutes and being abandoned by my team dead on 5pm, but we were done by 5.10 which I thought was pretty good.

So looking forward to the long weekend. I've got a friend coming to stay on Friday night and they are going to give me a hand with some of my silly DIY projects, or at least be three to pick me up when I do something silly. One more work day.

The lodger situation isn't making much progress. I've had interest from people who would like to rent in August, which feels really silly this far ahead. Also one who isn't in work or education, and quite frankly if I wanted someone hanging around my home doing nowt I'd have procreated or remained married. Sigh.

Oh she really is that ungrateful. She wanted stroking this morning and I didn't respond quickly enough, so she told me again with sharp bits. I would mind less if I wasn't allergic. Scratches hurt and itch.

At the start of the year I planned to be back in the black with my credit card by the end of Feb. I put it back to March when the car needed work. I've just done my end of month financial tidy, and I have successfully got back into the black with the credit card! Woohoo!

Next target is getting enough saved up to cover the lintel installations. The plan is to take a money transfer on my credit card, as that comes with a fee but is interest free for 12 months. That way I can save up to repay that over 12 months. I started a £300 regular saver in Feb, so that will come available in Feb 2025. If I can remain consistent with it that will cover the lintels. I know I had a meltdown the other week (ahem, thanks for talking me off the ledge you guys) but when I look at YNAB I am reminded that I am making ends meet. These lintels aren't going to bankrupt me, and the lodger is actually nice breathing space, not a make-or-break essential.

  • Lodger auditions are taking place this weekend. I had two people come and look at the room yesterday, and I have a third at 11am today. As a result I was up at 6am yesterday cleaning and tidying. It has been a bit hard as I can't actually use the bathroom at the moment as the waste pipes have been disconnected by the builders outside. So I couldn't clean the bathroom, and I haven't been able to have a shower after all the cleaning. I'm planning to wash my hair over the kitchen sink this morning.

I have done well with food as well. I've got four sandwiches in the freezer to take to work next week, and I batch cooked on Friday night and last night. My freezer and fridge are full of black bean stew, and a tomato and chickpea invention.

  • Massive congratulations on getting into black on the credit card, woohoo! Love the 'not a make or break essential', thats a lovely relief isn't it? Not being able to shower sucks, I hope the sink is good to your hair and the lodger interviews go well. Also, incredible work on making food for work and batch cooking! Fab!

I hope you find a lodger you like. You need to be able to trust them and not be annoyed by them 🤭
Well done on the food prep.

  • That's exactly it about the lodger. Knowing that I don't HAVE to do it means I can be more picky and find someone who is right for me, and not just anyone to be able to keep the roof over my head.

Right, really need to stop faffing about and go dunk my head under the tap!  :D

  • Lodger auditions were successful, and I am actually feeling really positive about the whole thing now, both the choice of person and the idea of sharing my space again. I have celebrated by buying a replacement bedsheet for the one that tore about three months ago, and some new socks and knickers to replace the ones with holes. Jeez I really do have some emotional issues around spending money, don't I? They don't warn you about that in the bankruptcy how-to guides.   :D

Tomorrow I am at the dentist in the morning before work. Hopefully that isn't a big deal.

Dentist went smoothly and she doesn't want to see me for a year. I think my electric toothbrush is the thing that has made the difference, as it really does clean my teeth so well. Very moneysaving. :)

Builders have been today. They have left a ladder in place so I hopped onto the first level of the scaffold. They have done so much damage to the kitchen roof, I am going to have to ask them to make sure they replace the tiles that have been smashed to smithereens.

Not much else to report. Lots of DNA appointments at work, really frustrating and such a waste of time.
