What was the extra for? How much extra?
    MFW 2025 #50: £1139.75/£6000

    12/06/25: Mortgage: £65,000.00
    07/03/25: Mortgage: £67,000.00
    18/01/25: Mortgage: £68,500.14
    27/12/24: Mortgage: £69,278.38

    27/12/24: Debt: £0 🥳😁
    27/12/24: Savings: £12,000

    07/03/25: Savings: £16,500

  • Well I needed £3k and borrowed £5k, so the extra was £2k. Effectively it's just for the sake of stoozing and having it sit in high interest accounts for 18 months to make me feel safer while I rebuild my savings.

Since late June I have had a change of housemate, which was a bit stressful. Settling in now though.

Home insurance is due and has gone up because of course having a housemate is really risky.  :|

I'm usually keeping organised with taking lunch to work, making dinner at home and having tesco pizza at the weekend rather than takeaway. Maybe a couple of lunches and an evening McDs per month, which is pretty good I think.

Budget did go wrong in June, but considering the overall trend for 2024 I'm feeling OK about it.

well done on the work lunches because they can really add up and actually I used to think home made lunches were much tastier.  However, when I travelled for work I had a lunch allowance and if there was a nearby Pret that was a real treat!
  • Ooh yes, I love a Pret lunch treat. I worked near one when I was about 20 and was always getting lunch there. I miss that my nearest one is about 50 miles away, but it is definitely better for my purse. Just so much interesting choice of veggie food compared to everywhere else.

I've spent this morning shopping around for home insurance, and managed to get it down to £215 from my cheapest quote of £330 the other day. It was only about £100 last year when I didn't have a lodger, so that was a bit of a shock.

I can't find my main bank card. I had it when I went for a walk one evening to the beach (and a fancy hot chocolate) but now it's AWOL. I'm hoping it's in the laundry basket somewhere, because I had shared my hot chocolate with my jumper and shorts so I had to change when I got home.

  • Hope you find your bank card, stresses me out when I can't locate it! Hot choc on the beach sounds so lovely. Sorry the house insurance has increased, seems crazy a housemate increases it!

Unfortunately, having met some of my former housemates this doesn't seem such a surprise.  :D

    I found the bank card.

  • Nothing much happening over here. The car has lit up a "I want a service" light, as well as the rumbly indicator that an exhaust repair is in the pipeline (pun intended). My phone has also told me that 3G is switching off next month, so will need replacing. It's had a pretty good innings though, I think I bought it in 2020 second hand. Looking at about £150 for the replacement I want but if I can get 4 years out of that as well I will be happy.

Off camping this weekend. I did treat myself to a new stove because I have been using a tiny backpacking stove for the last decade, and I wanted a decent size one for a bit. Excited, but think it's going to be rainy and bug-filled.

  • I just think that cars have too many lights and sensors these days, I'm sure more basic cars were actually better! Have a wonderful time camping, I will keep my fingers crossed for the weather, I think a decent stove is a great investment, need to be able to make a good cuppa as quick as possible!
  • I completely agree about cars being too clever for their own good. I hope to never have a car that tries to tell me when to change gear, as I will rev it to dust for the condescending attitude.

Camping was good, although I am a bit midge-bitten and itchy now. The new stove was very effective for the kettle.

I have just looked again this morning and the phone I want is in stock, so I have taken the hint and ordered it. I wanted the version with extra memory, as I find that tends to be factor that limits the usefulness of an older phone. I've had at least one laptop and one phone become obsolete due to insufficient memory. Also ordered a case from ebay, because I am really good at dropping phones.
