Can anyone give me some advice on a PAYG sim for my mother .

She is currently on   the 3 network but since the price increase is looking to change -  90% of the times she uses Whatsapp while at home but does phone a few landline numbers ( doctors etc )  which since the increase  wipes out her credit.

Have looked into the 1p mobile but my only concern is the £10 every 100 days in case I forget to do it and she loses her number  ( I could setup a standing order but prefer not to ) , was looking into ASDA but not too sure if the credit expires after 30 days or rolls over like the 3 networks.

In short  looking for a cheap PAYG sim which the credit does not expire after 30 days ( 2 - 3 months is fine ) .

thanks

  • Asda credit does not expire but you have to top up by at least a fiver every six months. Uses Vodafone network.

Have a look at RWG, many mentions on here (not many are negative). Uses EE Network.

Just make sure that you have coverage from these other networks (preferably by trying/asking others, don't rely on the network's own coverage maps) before you swap from 3.

There is a current RWG thread running which may help with any questions you have

I've just browsed through the Asda Mobile Terms and Conditions 2022 and whilst there are many references to top-ups, I can't find one that states it's needed every six months.

    Is it stated elsewhere?

I too was going to go to Asda Mobile but read about RWG. Seems to be positive comments here and elsewhere I've read. It does seem too good to be true as you can just pay a fiver and providing you don't go over your monthly allowance, that's all you ever need to pay. Just make a call every 90days.

Just check my mother's Asda Mobile and it says "Invalid SIM". She made a chargeable call a few months ago to keep the number active but not topped up for ages (last time was when it was on the EE network). Looks like she's lost her number and credit.
  • Worth giving them a call just in case it an be restored, costs nowt.

Thanks. I just come off the phone to them and they said that the number is lost because it's got a disconnected status but if we get a new SIM card, they can transfer the balance over to it. However, he did confirm that a top up needs to be made every 180 days.

Thanks. The way I read this is that you have to top up within 180 days of activating the account, not 180 days from your pervious top up. Being a low user who has already topped up I'll wait to see if I receive a text 180 days later on.

The same terms apply, once you’re SIM card is activated.
