    Asda and Tesco PAYG sim will receive calls/text with zero credit after activation.

    then how do you avoid the sim number being disconnected from their network after 180 days  for not making a chargeable call
    You can't. Get another sim.

    Add £10 credit which will last almost indefinitely (well £10 divided by 10p text every 6 months is a long time!!)
    Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

    Asda minimum top-up is £5 but the rules have changed and there have to be subsequent top-ups every six months to keep the account active.

    Just check my mother's Asda Mobile and it says "Invalid SIM". She made a chargeable call a few months ago to keep the number active but not topped up for ages (last time was when it was on the EE network). Looks like she's lost her number and credit.
    Asda's ee sims should all have been replaced by asda vodafone sims. It is possible one was sent out but she didn't realise she needed to replace her sim. I would contact customer service and say you haven't received the new sim and old one has stopped working.
  • Having read this thread and wanting a back up sim for a phone to lend to a friend, who will use it for emergency only, I wanted a Sim that would not run out each month.  I liked the idea of the 180 days with Asda, where you send a message, make at least one call or top up during the 180, so ordered a sim but the email seems to just give a monthly option.  How do I use it as an 180 day?  Sim not arrived yet, only just ordered the sim.

  • There's only one kind of Asda sim. It's PAYG with optional monthly packages. Stick it in a phone, check it's working (ring it, text it) then go online to Asda mobile and top up by a fiver. Good to go.

    Or you can order a topup card then add credit at the checkout when you shop at asda;

    Went for 02  - 123 in the end buying the sim from ebay for £1, cheap rates plus does not expire if you use the phone atleast once every 3 months .

     When I topped up £10 they gave me another £5 for free for registering online. Hopefully it will last a while without them raising the rates.

    They did ask where I got the sim from as they have not sold them instore for over a year , thanks for everyones help

    Asda sims which ran on ee will not work on Vodafone. Unfortunately it seems they didn't contact the customers directly or automatically despatch replacement sims. Nor did they transfer credit across according to this article.
