Imagine if the S&P500 does end up 80% down, how tantalising it will to be able to keep hoovering up such a long term solid bet at fire sale prices.1

In theory. In reality nobody will want to touch them. That's when you know it's a real bear market.
But it's when no-one wants them that it's the best time to buy.0

I buy monthly - month in, month out, year in, year out regardless of price.Type_45 said:GazzaBloom said:Imagine if the S&P500 does end up 80% down, how tantalising it will to be able to keep hoovering up such a long term solid bet at fire sale prices.

Me too. I am aware of the prices and I keep a watchlist but it has almost zero effect on my buying decisions. The only time performance or price influences me is during the occasional rebalance or if there is some dividend cash to reinvest.GazzaBloom said:

Will be accumulating cash within my pension wrapper from January with my monthly contributions to build a retirement cash buffer. Will be looking at a 90/10 or 80/20 split between US stocks and cash as I move into retirement in 2-3 years or so.1

            I had a good September.
My cash + investments went up 8.2%. That includes new money earned. But everything else went up too.
