I think they'll simply create the money and pass on the costs to holders of the GBP and the British tax payer.

I'd be concerned about the fluctuating value of the capital sum, as with all fixed rate securities.

I'd be concerned about the fluctuating value of the capital sum, as with all fixed rate securities.

If you buy individual gilts and commit to holding to maturity, the fluctuating market value is of no consequence. A bond fund, where maturing gilts are continually being replaced is a very different proposition.
