And what username am I putting? my talktak email address or my domain email address?

used talktalk email address (same as for incoming details on phone) and then tried to send an email making all the changes you suggested - but get the same error message as I usually get when using data.
EDIT - i get an error message when sending with wifi on now as well!
(But i put it back to the way it was and it sends via wifi - as before - but still not via data)0 -
If it doesn't work I'm not surprised it breaks both and it probably is a question of the exact username/password combination to use - i'd assume it's the full e-mail address @talktalk and usual password used for collection of mail.I've probed the server and it does listen on 587 and offers authenticated smtp:-telnet smtp.talktalk.net 587
Trying 62.24.202.43...
Connected to smtp.talktalk.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 cm1nec smtp.talktalk.net ESMTP server ready
ehlo mail
250-cm1nec hello [x.x.x.x], pleased to meet you
250-HELP
250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN <<------- Accepts authentication
250-SIZE 30000000
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-8BITMIME
250-STARTTLS
250 OK
In theory that should work :-(

Unfortunately as i'm not a customer of talktalk i can't really test it further. To get the wifi version back to working just remove the ssl, set auth back to none and port to 25 again.1

I've got it back to where it was. I guess I'll have to try a different angle on this.
Back to the gmail idea perhaps. Although (see above) I can't get that to work either!
(ps. I did use the same usename email address and password as the incoming and I thought it had worked until I tried to send an email.. )

You could use something like this to rule out your email client:-I'd advise changing your password afterwards (or before and switch it back) just because it's a 3rd party. But it will test the service talktalk offer on your behalf.

Hi All,
I'm having another go at using gmail to forward my domain email to and from. I'm on the "add another email address that you own" yellow box on my gmail account - and I'm wondering about the "SMTP Server" section. I've just left it as "smtp.gmail.com" and port 587 as is is -- but should I be changing that?
The username is my domain email address and password... again, I'm not sure what to put here... I don't think this domain email has a password, I've just always used the password that is connected to the underlying email address I've set up... or am I wrong? I have a password to get into my 123 reg account, and maybe the email has a password in there?
EDIT - no passwords for email addresses at 123 Reg account.
Is that what I'm doing wrong here? Is that why I just get an error message? I've been putting in the password that I use to access currently, which is the one set up with my underlying talktalk email, but that's not going to be relevant here...
I'm very confused!0
