I'm getting a slightly different window than the link suggests. It's not asking for a reply to address but instead for my password. But when I enter it, it doesn't work...

I wonder if this is a POP issue. That's how I'm trying to set it up. I like having it as IMAP on my phone and then POP on my computer - so I can just check things on my phone and then they all download to my computer and I can keep or manually delete...

But maybe that's causing the problem and I should update.

The concern then is, how do I keep all the emails I already have in my Thunderbird account for this email address - I don't have them anywhere else...

Anyway, I'll dig back into this tomorrow... Maybe email hosting is worth it if I don't have to deal with this stuff again...

Yeh, this is the kinda issue I was talking about with the "direct" access to/from your email - one of the benefits of email hosting. For security reasons (to stop people sending email as you...) you need to do a fair bit of work these days with things like DMARC and SPF records (over at 123-reg) regardless of which option you choose.

As for keeping the emails, that should be fine. You can just keep that account active in Thunderbird, it just will no longer send/receive emails. Or if you want to go all in to Gmail, you can get Gmail to import all the emails directly server side (there's options for that in settings somewhere!)

It's still not letting me add another email address in gmail. I just keep getting "Authentication failed. Please check username/password."

I'm confused by this, as the password is the same as the gmail one - I mean, the domain email address doesn't have a password of it's own, right? It just uses whatever you set up for the email address hidden beneath it? And I'm logged into my gmail account so I don't understand why the password is failing...

Zoho have a free plan, been using it for about a decade for a single domain with a few accounts. Works fine and with very few issues. Never even got close to the 5GB limit as far as I can tell.

They do? Why have I not seen this? They hide it well!

I think I've just created an email address in my Zoho account. I've also verified my domain with 123 reg.

So - now what do I do in order to set it up with Thunderbird and Mail on my iphone?

I assume I need to change / remove the forwarding to gmail that I set up on the 123 reg account? Does it need to be there at all now??

Just to clarify the point - "It won't send when on data".
Are you using "smtp-auth" or just straight smtp relay services.
The reason i ask is if it's unauthenticated the chances are your ISP is only allowing its own IP addresses to "relay" mail via them (and hence it works on Wifi).
In effect on "data" you're, most likely, a customer of another network provider (even if it's bundled up together).
It might be as simple as switching on authenticated services (assuming it's offered / available).

POP/IMAP should have no bearing on sending mail as they're mail collection protocols.

SPF, DKIM & DMARC records are all good shouts but if you're not running a business the "exposure" of not having them is somewhat smaller.

Oh. I've just gone to settings and it's not letting me set up POP or IMAP and says "This feature is available exclusively with paid plans."
