Petrol Prices

Well worth considering a trip over the border to fill your tank, may make a lot of sense depending on convenience. I filled my tank with petrol yesterday at an automated Go station outside Letterkenny at 1.99 Euro per litre which converted to £1.68stg at yesterday's rate, a saving of 20p a litre.

Good advice if you live near or are travelling over the border anyway.
Just depends how far away you are if it makes sense.
I managed to save 12p a litre here yesterday by using the Petrol Prices app which surprised me. Got my diesel for 182.9 which was a pleasant surprise (never thought I would write that his time last year!)0 -

Current cheapest diesel sitting at 172.9 in my area. Still expensive enough.tommie said:
Think the only sure-fire way to save money on petrol or diesel is to just try to not use it!0 -
Apparently if the war goes on into the winter, petrol rationing will be brought in down south, as part of an eu directive. We’ll find out soon enough.I’ve a wee Honda cg125 here, surplus to requirements, gets about 120mpg. PM me.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

I'd love to know how they would police that.....qwert_yuiop said:Apparently if the war goes on into the winter, petrol rationing will be brought in down south, as part of an eu directive. We’ll find out soon enough.

163.9ppl out our way now - Tandragree and over to Portadown, though some price variance in portadown up to +10ppl if you're not careful.
Banbridge direction, they seem to be price fixing and pretty much everyone was around the 173.9ppl mark. The Go station on the A1 down from Banbridge though was 163.9ppl.
Up like a rocket, down like a feather, as they say.
Too many suppliers suiting themselves and taking unnecessary profit.0 -
The last time there was petrol rationing here was 1956 after the invasion of suez. In 1973, with the Middle East oil embargo, everyone was issued coupons which you were to present at a petrol station to allow you to buy. The scheme was never implemented - PM Edward Heath made an arms deal with the Arab states and the U.K. was able to import oil.motorguy said:

I remember that in the 70s... the queues for petrol... the horror of it going over 70p per gallon...qwert_yuiop said:

I don’t, but I remember reading a few years ago that the dearest it’s ever been in real terms was in 1975. Maybe it broke that record earlier this year?“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

Well, in fairness oil is still over $90 a barrel and the pound isn’t worth as many dollars as it used to be. Around 45% of the price is tax anyway.
