Try Hotpoint Aqualtis 1600, triple A ratings, very quite even when there is a full load(larger drum). Priced in the shop at over £400, but you can get it on line for about £320.

I second that Machine - whitegoods have this pretty cheaply I'm sure I got it for £320 about 3months ago - brilliant service & great company.

As for the washing machine - Brilliantly quiet (It says it has Shhhh technology ;o) ) And at 1600 spin it is the top of the range in this model - The features this model has are fantastic, including the ultra "green" functions that allow you to adjust each wash to what you need - including Temperature and spin speed. Also a delay function (wait up to 24hrs before commencing the wash) and a 30min quick wash. Finally every configuration of wash gives you an accurate countdown of the time of each wash, which is a lot of Washing (max load 7.5g).

£450 in Comet - so you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

    J

PS - It looks cool as well !! ;o)
Stay happy & enjoy yourself - no matter what !

Quicker wash time. If you have cold fill only then the machine has to heat the water for the wash. If you have hot fill and you already have a tank of hot water then the wash cycle is quicker.

A guy in Currys said the idea is something like the machine regulates the temperature itself, and that you don't have the boiling hot water coming onto the clothes. I think the reason all machines are cold fill only now is they're cheap to make. He said LG washers had the dual fill if we really wanted it and they have direct motor to drum drive and are supposed to be very quiet.

buy a Meile very reliable cheap to run

you are all raving about Meile but, which one shall i buy? they have so many.
i want to invest in one too, i hate washing machine that dont last long.
i had beko bought from currys and its rubbish only lasted a year,a waste of money as i didnt put waranty.

    the whole range is good

for me my biggest problem in the past
was over use.with a family and a disabled
mum to look after we were averaging
around five washes a day ! just to try
and keep on top of the washing

because I often needed to get things
washed and dried rapidly the short
wash cycle was a godsend.A high
spinspeed was a must as in a flat
we were often using the drier so the
more water that was squeezed out
the shorter the drying time.I have to say
the results of the washing are first rate
I have a timer on the machine that has
    proved handy.Because anything badly marked
I put on a long wash set the timer so its
finishing when I get up of a morning.

Do shop around as there are savings to be made
have a look on the miele site and read up first
on what the different models have to offer
in terms of what they actualy do.On mine I
can get it reprogramed to to include the newer
cycles when they are introduced, but I am
happy with it as it is.

One things for sure it will last a long time
they reckon on at least 20 years problem
free and everyone I have ever asked
about this seem to be of the same opinion
from their own experiances of owning one

I read this in the blurb also but i don't know anyone who's had it done. Not sure if they can flash new code/functionality or just the calibration. My guess is that it would be only be done if a post production problem was found or you had it serviced but i dont know anyone who's needed one serviced either. It's great to know i dont have to think about buying a new machine every few years or getting it repaired. A miele is a no brainer. If i couldnt afford one i'd eat bread and water until i could.
    Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!

    Hi,

I did a similar search a few months ago & I ended up buying a John Lewis one. It has all that you asked for plus a 30 min wash and a 3 year warranty!

You can get some pretty good discount codes on the code section and go via Quidco for even more money off.

This is the machine I got.....

when I first thought of buying my Meile
I was stood in John Lewis buying filters
for our vaccum I asked the lady at the
till whats the best most reliable machine
you sell ? Before she had a chance to
    answer,nearly everyone in the queue
    behind me bar one
said get a Meile and kiss goodbye to
repair men in your home and continual
buying. That was enough to convince me
we had previously got through four
washers varying in price from £259 to
nearly £500 and I knew our current one
at the time had started to play up
its like you just say to yourself, enough!
    I cant keep doing this.

If you can afford it, get a Miele.

If you want to spend less, buy a Bosch, Siemens, or AEG/Electrolux/Zanussi/John Lewis (all Electrolux).

If you are on a budget, look for a Tricity-Bendix, also made by Electrolux.

    Heard mixed reports about Hoover/Candy.

Avoid Indesit/Ariston/Hotpoint like the plague - the Hotpoints are quiet, but reliability is really poor, especially the ones with lots of (Indesit designed) electronics in them. Drum bearing failure is also common, and the latest machines have sealed drums. £90 for Hotpoint to fit "free" parts within the 5 year parts warranty.

My Candy has just started playing up after 13 years and a new motor! It's rusty as hell but it's been a real trojan.

I'm going for this Aqualtis from Boots - don't forget 4.5% at Quidco too if you do go for it! At £315 plus £12 odd Boots points plus the quidco money, it worked out best, but we're having to wait 2 weeks to hear about stock (hopefully to say they have them in by then!).

Sainsburys have them at £315 too but their Nectar points add up to £2.50 something, which I find an astonishingly rubbish selling point  But they maybe have them in stock.

If anyone knows of cheaper from a good retailer I'd love to hear, as we're quite desperate (those kids do go through washing like wildfire, don't they... )

I've bought from Comet Clearance several times, though you have to keep an eye on the prices. You access it from the Comet homepage. I bought an LG (1600 spin) washer in the middle of December for £169. It was described as having a medium dent between 2 and 5 inches long on the front. When I got it, the dent was less than a centimetre big, and is not noticeable at all. The machine was unused. Everything from them comes with at least a years warranty. I got a 2 year warranty free from LG.
I also had to pay delivery charges of £25. The cheapest I found this machine for online was £420
  • I'm not sure which is the best (although Maytag was recommended to me) but try to avoid Bosch - they are just terrible.
