Washing machine - Best value for money -Suggestions please!

I really need a washing machine as mine has died! I am trying to hold out for the sales, but when they start what do I look for?!

I need a child lock (My 2yr old broke the current)
High spin
handwash option
Energy efficient (CHEAP TO RUN!)

Don't really know what else I need!

I'm not looking for the cheapest (or I'd just use a comparison website)
But the best value for money (as in the biggest saving! & features per pound etc!)

Many thanx
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!

  • Bosch are supposed to be good machines and come with a 2 year guarantee as standard. You may not get lots of features for your money, but you will get a good solid machine.

You could look at www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk for advice and what to look out for, I found it great when I was getting my new machine.

Try Hotpoint Aqualtis 1600, triple A ratings, very quite even when there is a full load(larger drum). Priced in the shop at over £400, but you can get it on line for about £320.

Best for your money is Miele. Will last you years. Bosch and Siemens are also good choices.

The problem with those warranties is they will usually only give the parts under the warranty if you pay one of their own people to carry out the repair, and my guess is they aren't going to be cheap unfortunately.

He didn't break the child lock, he spun all the dials while it was in cycle!! I didn't have a chil lock, thats why I want it on the new one, either that or one that comes with a free cage/handcuffs so I can lock him away while its on!:rotfl:

  • Do NOT buy an Indesit - we had one for three years and it went wrong at least six times (this was the second one - the original one was delivered and didn't work at all so a second one was delivered).

We have just purchased a Miele (hugely expensive but had a ten year guarantee - with three littlies in the house I cannot be without a washing machine).

We've had a Servis in the past, that one lasted about ten years.

buy a Meile very reliable cheap to run
    and very long lasting.Nothing flimsy
to break on them.Really good washing results
too, most stuff is fine on the 40c 1/2 hour
    wash cycle,good 1600 spin speed.
also we live in a flat and my neighbours were
always complaining about the noise of our
old washing machine this one is totaly silent
in use except for the final spin and even that
    is really quiete.

We are a low income family but got fed
up going from one washer to another
Took us ages to save the money to
buy one but have never looked back
I realise now why everyone was
    raving about them.

Integrated (intended to be in those cupboard things) rather than free-standing.
