The prospect of fun, adventuring and joy - you've got the right priorities, El! Have a lovely time.2023: the year I get to buy a car2

Yesterday I spent a wee bit of time in the polytunnel, I'm trying to take out the beds on one side and put down slabs so that I can have work benches etc there, so I started emptying the dirt out of one of the beds, with it being in the polytunnel the dirt was very dry, I didnt think ( but I should have) to wear a mask, a fine dusting of soil went up in the air as I was shovelling and landed in my lungs, I spent all night wheezing like a 60 a day smoker, took my inhaler but it made no difference, I have so much more to do but I dont want to make it any worse and have yet another chest infection and im off work in less than a weeks time so I want to let them recover.
It's annoying as from Wednesday onwards my breathing felt like the best it had been since before xmas and I havnt had a dizzy spell or anything, anyway i will find other things to do and may have to find a way to pay someone to do the digging for me.
Today I'm resting to try and improve the lungs, I've heard Muellin tea is good for them so will have some of that.
Hope you all have a great and restful day2 -
Not sure of anyone watches any of the you tube finance videos or not, I tend to watch th and learn and adapt my behaviours to suit our goal.
One of the best things about MSE is how we all support each other, how we all push and guide each other.
Damian talks is a good you tune channel, today I watched this video and I reminded me of MSEhttps://youtu.be/jj9A_4CtL4I

Up and ready for work today, still sounding bad but better than yesterday, have started doing some new lung excercises, so will see where that leads me, starting back at the gym today as well, wont do much but it's good to get back to it.
Finance wise I'm taking lunch to work so deff wont be buying anything in the canteen, I've spent so much there in the last few weeks, just checked bank accounts and transferred what needs transferring.
Have a great day3 -
Paying someone to help sounds a good call. Ask around - particularly single friends - they may have someone who's not to expensive they call on for help.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Have been on holiday this week, spent a lovely day walking with a certain Skinty and tomorrow we are going to be pampered, so looking forward to that.
In other news we need a new car, we have been looking and something we thought would be very easy is turning out to be anything but. My head is turned with it all, but hopefully we will get there soon.2 -
El, I'd be interested to know about your hunt for the right car for you, and the basis of your judgement, I'm *so* ignorant, and its such a big purchase!
In the meantime, enjoy your holiday, especially the part with skinty2023: the year I get to buy a car1 -
oh KC the hunt for the car is a big bit of a nightmare ( ask Skinty)
we need a car that tows atleast 2 tonne, so diesel, it has to have good lumbar support for Mr El, heated seats and steering for Mr El ( dupytrens and very bad back) it has to have a full size spare wheel, we want the seats to go down flat and be big enough that should we need to we can sleep in the back of the car, it has to have hands free phone etc
other things we would like, leather seats to make it easy to keep clean, DAB radio, sat nav.
We are between the Santa Fe by Hyundai and the Toureg by Volswagen, the toureg is a stoater of a car but it comes at a stoater of a price and could be a bit overkill tbh, the santa fe does almost what we need and it cheaper, but for just £5k more we could get the Volkswagen which is meant to be a better car that will last longer. any hints or tips much appreciated0 -
The last of my work holidays are gone, I had a busy stressful relaxing enjoyable week,
Relaxing and enjoyable was my walk with skinty and our day at the spa, much needed, the busy and stressful bit came with the car.
Our car is very old and needed replaced so I have spent a few days going from garage to garage and testing cars out, watched online videos read reviews and tried to make the right decision, we have chosen the santa Fe.
Yesterday Mr el and I sat down with the money, I am diverting a big chunk of our retirement money towards the new car, Mr El doesnt want to get rid of the old car, so we have additional costs there as well , 2 insurances, tax,r epairs, diesel etc, so we have had to sit back down with finances.
It's probably well overdue tbh, so we have a new budget, one I hope we can work towards and I will need to start doing a bit of overtime at work to help out.
we need to be more rigid with our money if we are to succeed.
Let's see how that goes2 -
Is Mr El very fond of the old car, El, or does he find it useful in some other way? I'm really not surprised looking at cars was stressful, I find it stressful even thinking about it! I'm so glad you had such a lovely time with Skinty though2023: the year I get to buy a car3
