Jet2 claim

Hi
I am after a little help.
After many years of travelling we are making our first claim for delayed flights.
We were meant to leave Birmingham at 8.30am but our flight was delayed until 12.20pm (almost 4 hours).  They notified us at 5.25am - 5 mins before check in opened so must have know long before they sent us a text message.
We were then delayed on the way home.  Flight should have left at 14.40pm but didn't take off until 18.30pm.  We were collected from our holiday apartments at the normal collection time and at that point the flight was on time.  We only found out it was going to be delayed after we checked in at 12.50pm.  We only knew it was going to be delayed when we were able to see the flight screen in the departure lounge when it was finally updated about 2 hours after we checked in.  We then got a text message saying 5 euros had been added to our boarding passes (5 euros couldn't buy you very much - l think a coffee or drink if you were lucky).

I am now filling out the claim form and would like to know what l should write on the the claim details to help me have a better chance of getting a payment.
I have read on here that they will try and get out of it but l want to get my point across that this isn't acceptable and after the May half-term fiasco they have had plenty of time to get their act together.

Reason for the delay on the way out was 'The cabin crew were late getting back the night before and had to have the correct number of hours rest'.  They should have a better system in place and not use the late night staff to operate the morning flights.  They need a better staff rota system.

Reason for the delay on the return trip 'We had to get another plane from Manchester as the one we were going to use had a problem'.  I am guessing they knew this earlier.

Any hints or tips would be much appreciated.

fill in the claim form here (once for each flight) https://www.jet2.com/delays-and-disruptions
Claim details...."delayed arrival over 3 hours" should be sufficient, no need to go into detail about getting better staff rotas etc. The flight number will be either flagged as due compensation or not.

Hi Kit, we might have been on the same flights!

Was it BHX to Corfu and then back 2 weeks later by any chance?

  • Yep, we were on the same flights as you. Also, like you I've never claimed for flight delays before and I don't know how to check whether the flights are flagged as being due compensation, but I've filled in the claim forms available with the link given by Caz (thanks for the info Caz). So far I've had auto response emails to acknowledge receipt of both of the claim forms, but they added that they would aim to respond within 10 weeks! I'll update the post if I hear anymore from Jet2, if you would post about your progress as well that would be great.

    Hi Boydgrover

We got the same reply for our claim.

I think they can only try and get out of the claim if it is down to air traffic control which is out of their hands.  In the case of both our flights it was down to jet 2 staffing issues and plane problems (or so they said).

I would be interested to know what they told the people on the reverse flights.

Would be good if you could keep me posted too on your progress.

  • Hi Kit,

Yes, no problem, I'll keep you posted on my progress. It feels good not being alone in the task of claiming compensation.

Hi Jet2 claimers. Couple of points.
    1. Its not the departure time, its the arrival time that counts for the hours of delay. Although it looks as if you'll be OK here.
    2. Airlines will find every excuse in the book not to pay out, procrastination, wordy excuses  etc etc. To be fair though, Jet2 have got better over the years since they got their fingers badly burnt in a significant court case several years ago (Huzar vs Jet2)
Really the only get outs they have are:
    1. ATC restriction.
    2. Weather affecting the flight in question
    3. Bird strike
Other factors TOTALLY outside of their control eg Heathrow forcing flight number reductions
You just have to keep on at them, use and ADR or even SMC if necessary.
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

I know what you mean.  I know someone was filling in a claim form when we were sitting in the hot departure area.
