John Lewis Partnership Card

I kept getting the 'System is currently unavailable - Try again later ' error until I received the physical card. I suspect it's an incorrect error message and it requires the expiry date from the physical card, not the temporary card.Contador38 said:Has anyone managed to register with New Day/ John Lewis organisation ?
I applied last week and received an email that a new card is on its way.
Another email received yesterday asking me to register.
But everytime I try to register, it tells me 'System is currently unavailable - Try again later '

I registered straight after I applied for the card. In the account there are a few things you can't do until you have verified receipt but you can set up a direct debit.mgfvvc said:

I guess something like that as I had to guess the expiry date.
I shall try again as soon as I receive the card.0 -
True this card is contactless and you can’t change that, nor can you change the limit from the standard £100. But you can set it up to send you a text every time it is used. So if you get a get a string of texts notifying you of payments that you don’t recognise you can use the app to freeze the card.Mike199 said:I have two issues with the new card:(1) there is not a non-contactless option(2) you cannot change the £100 contactless limit. So if your card is stolen, the thief can spend £99 a time as often as they like until you realise the card is missing and report it, then you'll have to pay whatever has been spent up to that point because you cannot prove you didn't carry out the transactions. Not very good and I doubt I'll be transferring to it.0 -
Thanks. I didn’t know about the rules and thought that the fact that it asks me for the pin sometimes was some sort of random check. I was a bit doubtful about contactless when I first started using it but really like it now and it’s reassuring that there are rules like this in place.eskbanker said:
It's not unlimited, it's up to five contactless transactions or up to £300, depending on which of these this card company uses.Mike199 said:So if your card is stolen, the thief can spend £99 a time as often as they like until you realise the card is missing and report it

I’ve received the invitation to apply for the new JL card, and it’s all gone smoothly and I’m waiting for my card. But (and nobody, in any review I’ve yet seen, has mentioned this) the new card only gives 15 days between statement date and payment date - with the old card, it was 25 days. This means that, in order not to get a payment date that is just before my pension hits my bank account, I’ll end up with a different statement date from my old JL card, and that, in turn, will mess up my long-standing system whereby I spend on this card for half the month, and another for the other half, in order to get the longest interest fee period before paying off the balance (IN FULL!).I’m therefore thinking of cancelling the NewDay card during the cooling off period, and applying for another card that offers 25 days - but will the NewDay application on my credit record spoil my chances of getting another card? It’s donkey’s years since I last applied for credit and I didn’t have to worry about that stuff then. I feel stupid for not thinking it through before I applied, but I was misled by JL’s breezy attitude into thinking that everything would be just the same, only with a new provider.0

For what it’s worth, you can set/change your preferred payment date for the new card.J63320 said:I’ve received the invitation to apply for the new JL card, and it’s all gone smoothly and I’m waiting for my card. You can, but it doesn't change the fact that you only get 15 days to pay, not 25.
New Day JLP card does have a 25 day payment option for new applications where it isn't a transfer from the old HSBC card.0 -
Can someone let me know who the email inviting you to apply for the new card comes from (email address)? I've had a JLP card for many years but don't seem to have been invited to apply for the new one - perhaps they're trying to tell me something!!
Thanks.0 -
