  • A bit off topic, sorry. But never used Google pay. Just wondering...do you get purchase notifications on the app is you pay using the physical card?
If Google Pay is anything like Apple Pay then in the app you’ll get a list of recent purchases made under each card. But only those purchases made under that card using Apple Pay.  I get texts for any purchases made using the PartnershipCard outside Apple Pay but my other cards don’t offer this service.

It depends on the card, I think. My Amex, NatWest and Curve cards show everything, including uses of the physical card and even online uses like PayPal. My prepaid Visa Spree card however only shows the times I used Google Pay at POS.

I haven't seen confirmation of whether NewDay cards added to Google Wallet show all transactions or just Google Pay ones, but it's worth a try if you need transaction notifications and you're not satisfied with the amount NewDay give you.

When you add a card to Google Pay or Apple Pay the transaction isn't direct to the card, it is against a unique device account number tied to the card.  It is similar to having another card against your credit or debit card account.  The second card will have a unique number, but the spend goes against a single account.

The payment record is from the device account record and not the card supplier.  I never get notifications when I use the physical Partnership card, but always do when using Applepay.

That's certainly not the case with Amex, Natwest and Curve with Google Pay, as I explained before.

My Amex transactions also show through Samsung Pay on my smart watch.

It would help if you detailed whether or not this is the JLFS (HSBC) or NewDay version of the card.

Not having received the email nor the letter with the code, I applied anyways fo the Newday Partnership card. I was rejected which was not surprising.
Looks like I will be moving all my spending to my FD credit card.
All my debit cards and credit cards are now Visa. I hope I don't get caught by any retailers not taking Visa (like Amazon threatened earlier this year), but I will cross that bridge
May apply for a mastercard credit card in the future once the Partnership card has been closed for a few months..

I haven't received either yet. I'm waiting until I do before considering applying. I might prefer a bank credit card to a branded one. I do have a Halifax card, so not too worried at the moment

I received the notification, including the code, by email. There was nothing posted.

Amazon were only threatening to cut Visa credit, so you'd still have been fine with your debit card. In the UK acceptance of the two is more or less equal. An outage with Visa (and HSBC/First Direct, if your debit cards are all there too) would be the 'risk' you'd be guarding against with a Mastercard.

Received both the code-containing letter & numerous emails. Applied for the new card. Straightforward process. Not happy about the credit limit though, which has been set at £250. Barely worth having, as means I wouldn't even be able to use the card to order a new washing machine! My original Partnership card had a limit of £2700 & I wouldn't want more than that. Around £2500 would be fine. There has been no change in my financial circumstances, I have no consumer debt & I pay off my card (it's my only one) in full every month. I consider myself to have been an exemplary customer, but clearly something in the algorithm used by their new card provider says not. I'll see if the limit is increased over the next few weeks, but if not, then I can't see much point in having the card.
