Thanks for the direct travel tips. I have got an annual policy, with ski cover for a couple for £74 - only £5 more than insure and go and with better cover.
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt ;)
  • Can anyone recommend a decent company that insures people over 60 and over 65 who are on medication. :)

Travelcoverdirect.co.uk ----an excellent internet-only firm. They cover up to the age of 70, even for annual insurance.. Each year they give a discount.
    I'm very happy with them.

I'm also trying to find reasonable travel insurance but have had real problems as my current broker has changed companies and the result seems to be a possible increase of 300%!!! Snag is my wife and I go to my daughters in USA for up to 40 days in the summer to see the grandchildren. Since we are in our late 60's and have existing medical problems(nothing critical and all controlled by medication) but have never claimed anything over many years, insurers either wont cover us, want silly prices or only offer 30 day trips.
Can anyone help, we are getting desperate...

Direct Travel offer annual policies with trip durations up to 45 and 62 days. However did notice age is up to 65, which going by your post may be a bit too young!. It might be worth phoning them though on : 01903 812345. Just noticed on their web site they do a senior citizen insurance 66 - 75 years as a single trip policy but it's only up to 31 days.

Alternatively you could try going direct to the insurance company you are already with rather than going through your broker. If the company is one that only deals through brokers post their details here and I'm sure someone will know if their broker deals with them. Hope that helps.

Check out This Thread on the silver savers board, you should find some helpfull information there, there is also another thread on that board with only a couple of posts and they recommend Tesco Insurance (tescofinance.com) but if you're over 64 you would need to phone for a quote on 0845 300 880 better still their geographic number is 0113 3904000.

Thanks Finishrich. I've tried quite a few and most want a phone call, Post Office did offer cover at £986.00!!!!! Have taken Margarets post and tried https://www.travelcoverdirect.co.uk (it's now "" netcoverdirect" but either works) Had to give all details of med. conditions and wait for E but cover offered seems great for all except existing conditions, price £98.00 for annual cover for a couple. An excess of £50.00 on most claims but it all seems very reasonable, (too reasonable??)
The company address is a PO box and this bothers me a bit. Has anybody tried a claim on them?
Sorry to sound cynical but put it down to senility!

Does anyone know any good standard travel insurance policies that will cover a single item limit higher than £500? Most of them state £250 as the max single item limit.

I have a Sony video camera that I want to take on holiday with me - which is worth about £700.
Alternatively - does anyone know whether my Home contents would cover this abroad? I have already added it as a specified item on my Home Contents Insurance which is with the AA. If it is covered by this I'm assuming that I don't have to make sure it is covered as part of my Travel Insurance and can opt for a bog standard Travel Insurance policy?
Thanks for any help in advance.

Anyone know of anywhere that will insure, preferably an annual policy, for over 70's (one over 75) with medcal conditions, ie blood pressure???
