I've just had a quote from TMSM via the moneysupermarket, single trip for a family of 4 to Majorca 7-14th May 2005. £17.64 !!!
Cheaper, and the cover was better than that offered by Insure & Go and Atlas Direct.0 -

I have a Sony video camera that I want to take on holiday with me - which is worth about £700.
Alternatively - does anyone know whether my Home contents would cover this abroad? I have already added it as a specified item on my Home Contents Insurance which is with the AA. If it is covered by this I'm assuming that I don't have to make sure it is covered as part of my Travel Insurance and can opt for a bog standard Travel Insurance policy?
Thanks for any help in advance.
The best way to insure expensive items is to have them on you home contents policy. Sounds like you may already have this. Give them a call to make sure.0 -

Anyone know of anywhere that will insure, preferably an annual policy, for over 70's (one over 75) with medcal conditions, ie blood pressure???
Age Concern and Saga are another 2 that might be worth checking out.0 -

I dont know if this applies to the AA but my home contents cover with Liverpool Victoria does cover "personal possessions" when shown in the schedule for up to 60 days worldwide. They do mention items particularly specified, as your camera seems to be, but have fairly strict rules about security and looking after valuable items.
I'm sure it would be worth checking your policy and then ringing up the AA to double check.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Once upon a time I would even have said "and don't worry too much about the small print because these people are the best" but unfortunately YOU MUST ALWAYS analyse small print in great detail thesedays because the insurers behind the schemes change it so often, which is ridiculous because even someone with years of insurance experience like me finds it a pain to avoid the rip off merchants as it seems the regulators tolerate them in as many guises as there are dreamt-up policy wordings on the market.0 -
WARNING to anyone renewing their Ryan Air Standard Holiday Insurance......check out sums insured. They have been REDUCED. I was very impressed with my policy until I went to renew yesterday. I went to Primary Insurance directly and paid a little more for a policy that did not load me for a heart murmour and asthma. I had to ring the medical screening agency Primary Insurance use and answered all the questions fired at me. They confirmed no extra premium and gave me a reference number which I had to relay to Primary 1 Direct before they would confirm my cover. This agency will send Primary 1 Direct confirmation of my medical status which is combined into my policy. If I had not been reading this thread over the last couple of weeks I would never have really paid so much attention to my renewal let alone declare the heart murmour and slight asthma. THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS VERY INTERESTING SUBJECT.
The policy cost £66.95SallyD0 -
Thanks Dodo - I'll check it with the AA

Have just been reading through previous posts have i too having been looking for single and annual family travel policies.I found e-sure to be very competitive at £30 for 8 days european cover for a family of 4.Also their excess for claims is only £35...i have seen some companies with much higher excesses for claims.Obviously this may not be suitable for all travellers but worth bearing in mind.ged710

If you plan on more than one trip, then it does seem expensive when you can get a family annual policy for Europe with Direct Travel for £50. (excess is £50 too), There single trip is the same price as you quoted above.0
