    With pre-existing medical conditions consider

1 Do I need to be insured for this condition? If not then get a standard insurance policy with it excluded.

2 Will I be travelling in Europe only? Can I get treatment using my E111? Will this be sufficient?

  • Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I'd be grateful for any help/advice. I'm going travelling for the first time for about 18 months in October (woo hoo!) and so far all tips for travel insurance seem to be for single or annual multi-trip policies.
Does anyone have any tips for getting a good policy that will cover me for continous travel over a year? I don't have any medical conditions but I'm hoping to do a bit of diving and motorbiking while I'm away. Obviously I want to save cash but I need good quality cover too.
    Can anyone help?

    Debs.

Most standard policies won't help. Generally there is a much shorter limit on the time you can spend out of the country. Your best bet is to phone some of the companies already mentioned in this thread and discuss your requirements.

Another good tip is to visit an insurance broker and ask him to find you a policy that gives you the cover you need. Any good broker will have contacts with specialist underwriters who can provide a tailor-made policy for you.

Based on other recommendations on this thread, I can confirm https://www.travelinsuranceweb.com are cheap with good cover - and I have had to claim before too. They covered me to Latvia, so I am sure Turkey is fine.

    Cheers

  • Thanks Art, much appreciated.

I'd assumed with so many people taking time out of education and jobs to travel that it would have been a bit more straight forward.

    Cheers

 Does anybody know of travel insurance company that will offer cover for people of 75 or older? I am a member or a retired persons association and this seems to be a worry for some of my fellow members

Most companies offer cover up to age 79. Two companies will offer cover to age 80. They are RAC and Annualtravel.
It's worth contacting them for a quote.

Saga has no age limit but will only offer single trip cover but not annual cover.

In a recent article on costs, the cheapest company for single people was Lloyds TSB and for a couple it was Legal and General.

    Art.
