https://www.direct-travel.co.uk have an annual cover policy called 'Premier Plus Worldwide' that gives 62 days cover per trip and I bet if you ring them they'll be able to get you an extension, they've always been very helpful to me and my family.
Also they don't cherry pick with regard to only covering certain age grou (i.e. unlike some they will cover 'wrinklies') , again they are flexible if you ask them and if you have pre-existing medical conditions. :j0 -
sounds like a cracking trip! hope direct travel can sort you out.
I've found cover for £70.50 (https://www.travel-insurance-web.com).
https://www.moneysupermarket.com shows the cheapest they've got at £71, and direct travel's normal 62 day policy is hopelessly expensive at £110, without extending it to 80 odd days, which is unlikely to reduce the price...
I thought the idea here was to save money?
HTH - have a good trip!if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0 -

Careful, insurance is not all the same and its often not until you come to make a claim that you discover this. Direct-Travel are underwritten by AXA Insurance (the UK's largest travel insurance insurer) whereas Travel-Insurance-Web are underwritten by a company called Professional Travel Insurance Company Ltd (they may be fine and dandy but I've never heard of them, have you ?).
Now, if I'm stuck up the Amazon with a poison arrow up my a*se and I have to call on the insurance, I know who I'd rather be relying on to come through with the goods ! :cool:0 -
lol - fair point. Although I tend not put things up my !!!!!!, still we all enjoy our holidays in our own way... :rolleyes:if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0

Has anyone got any recomendations for backpacker/gap year insurance? I've never been, but one of my frinds is looking around now - probably going for a year: aus, NZ and far east, with maybe/maybe not a couple of weeks in the US on the way back. Thoughts?if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0

I've used https://www.travsure.co.uk for our annual worldwide policy for the past few years. £57 odd quid. They allow you to exclude cover for personal belongings, seeing as they would be covered away from home under your home insurance policy. Mine are.
I made a claim a few years back for cancelled flights. Very helpful and no hassle.0 -
Hi, I don't know if anyone's mentioned this as I don't have the time or the inclination to trawl thro' 15 pages but as we are Natwest customers & have an Advantage Gold account we get free travel insurance, even though we have medical conditions & I've just got my bus pass !! I've just insured hubby & me for 2 wks in Portugal & have added my 18 year old daughter + boyfriend as "guests". It cost £30 each for them which also includes cover for her whilst she's horse-riding for a week whilst there.0

Alrightee people!
I will be on a trip of a life time in 3 weeks and need the beloved insurance.
However there are some legal issues that I need cleared....
I read with OH somewhere, but cannot find for the life of me now, that when you book just a flight without accomadation, you cannot get 'normal insurance', but only backpackers. When you have at least 3 nights booked, then you can go for the 'normal' option.
Thing is I'm off to Australia for 19 days in total travel, and we have the first 3 nights booked and a few other nights. BUT in Australia they don't take any payment until you arrive, so we have very little to proove that we have things booked.
ALSO - the problem that we are having is trying to find insurance that include a skydive. I found one on STA travel (actually I was given the link by a MSEr), but that was on premier 'normal insurance' not on their backpackers one.
Is it true that Australia will cover you with hospital care etc, as they do here? In other words would it really be necessary to get this extra cover , when we might not need it?
All views and experiences would be great , thanks.0
