Just a general point....i used to spend a lot of money on annual worldwide policies.
Barclays Additions Plus current account (£12 per month) includes Norwich Union Worldwide Annual Cover for 2 people. With the free total breakdown service as well (for the wife) and the other extras, it works out ok.
Dont use the bank account mind you......
  • If you are looking for cheap travel insurance I would strongly recommend that you do not go through Atlas travel insurance which was the cheap best buy on the site a few months ago

We purchased their fully comprehensive insurance & had to claim. After sending in all travel documentation we have been informed that we aren't covered (although we were initially told that we were). We found that they also refuse to send back any original documentation, preventing claim on our other insurance. To add to this their call centre personnel are very rude for no reason.

My big annual holidays come courtesy of Tesco Clubcard points. I was advised when booking these hols that only Tesco's own travel insurance would cover me and reimburse me - if necessary - because I didn't pay in cash. They said they would reimburse Clubcard points/vouchers. I have taken out annual family policies with Tesco.
Have I been told the truth?

I have been in touch with other travel insurance companies and asked the same question. All came back to say that they would not reimburse anything to do with the vouchers, no cash equvalent of the vouchers, not even £200 if you spent £200 in vouchers.

So unless anyone knows anything different, I'd stay with Tesco insurance, even if it is a bit pricier than the rest.

Has anyone had to claim from this company?

    http://www.travel-insurance-web.com

Everyone says they are cheap but I haven't heard of anyone with claim experience

    Thanks

This company used to be called Club Direct and they had a good reputation. They are also regulated by the FSA so you have somewhere to go if you have a problem with them.

My reservation would be that you can only deal with them online. I feel it is sometimes necessary to be able to talk to a real person if you need to claim.

Hi - I've been through the whole of this thread and cant really find anything along the lines of what I am looking for. I'm going to be out of the UK potentially for some time and most travel policies have exclusions if your trip is for longer than a certain amount of time.

Fortuneately my house policy has a good posessions cover which is worldwide and for any period of time. Also I can get health insurance where I am going for an extremely reasonable price and health care is not expensive any way. It is all the other bits you get with travel insurance that I *think* I need eg liability, major accident, missed departures, lost luggage, delays etc. I *think* I need this but actually I am not sure what I *must* have to travel and what I actually need.

Does anybody know an insurance co that will cover long stays, but let you pick and choose over what elements are actually covered - and still offer a resaonable price ?

There was a temptation to use an annual multi trip for the first n days, as once i'm there i wont be doing alot of travelling, just occaisaional and I may be able to get some local travel insurance - but I dont have alot of faith in this being that good. I do have more faith in what the UK offers.

You'll not find your answer in a standard travel insurance policy. You need a specialist who can tailor make a policy for you. Go to an insurance broker who has contacts at Lloyds of London. He will be able to contact an underwriter who will write a policy specifically to cover your requirements. If you contact Lloyds by phone they may be able to point you in the direction of a suitable broker if you have problems finding one.

    I hope this helps.

Any recommendations for pre-existing medical conditions (asthma/eczema, two children and one adult with asthma, all controlled). Any tips appreciated. Week in France in July. I've emailed a Insure and Go for a quote but haven't heard anything from them yet. Also anyone with pre-existing med conditions had to claim from a company, and whether there was any problems etc.

Thanks very much for any help.

Contacted Direct Travel Insurance after reading post 73. Got a quote of £26 for seven days, seemed reasonable for the three of us. Only £35 excess which seemed reasonable. Paid a fortune when we went to Germany two years ago and the travel insurance company were a right royal pain.

for travel insurance with medical conditions you could try https://www.allcleartravel.co.uk normally ok for 'minor' conditions...for travel insurance for people without conditions (and under 50!) use https://www.travelinsuranceweb.com - v cheap and good cover.
