My big annual holidays come courtesy of Tesco Clubcard points. I was advised when booking these hols that only Tesco's own travel insurance would cover me and reimburse me - if necessary - because I didn't pay in cash. They said they would reimburse Clubcard points/vouchers. I have taken out annual family policies with Tesco.
Have I been told the truth?

Does anyone know if the ryanair insurance (only £6 for barcelona) cover only the flight or if items get stolen whilst in my apartment?

    Thanks

Just had a renewal request from Norwich Union, the cheapest last year for my specific trip, for the bargain price of £432!

Can anyone beat a 450% increase?

I have no new medical conditions or anything like that, and I'm only 40, which is very young compared to, say, 50.

Thanks for the site. Maybe Norwich Union and the like will one day get the message.

Normally travel insurance doesn't cover a company going out of business. Most companies are required to have a bond from ABTA or the CAA and this is where you would get compensation if your travel company went down.

It's also worth paying for your travel with a credit card so that they become equally responsible for any refund.

Ryanair offers 2 levels of cover. Their standard policy covers you up to £250 for personal effects and the gold policy covers you up to £750. You will find full details on their website.

Hi, just booked travel insur. for me and my partner.

Followed MSE advice, and duly found EGG to be cheapest, but be warned! Read the small print.

Some of the cheaper policies exclude way too much for them to be useful. I wasnt covered
for simple beach activities like "kayaking" and "snorkling". The other problem was that "valuables" was defined as virtually everthing, and limited in claim to £300 (cash + camera + clothes is always going to come to more than 300).

    Conclusion: Try Norwich Union.
It came out a fiver more, but without any nonsense exlusions (and it has some great non-standard bonus... such as protection for your car breaking down on the way to the airport!!).
  • Can some kind person tell me if non EU european countries (Bulgaria/Romania etc) can be included on 'european only' travel insurance, and if so who gives a good deal, or do I need 'world cover'?

I have elderly friends who find the cost of travel insurance prohibitive, and for their European holidays they are prepared to rely on the E111 for health purposes, and for baggage, the personal possessions cover on their Household policy.
I realise that their are gaps between a full travel policy - but the major item is health cover - are their any Insurers who would be prepared to provide only the balance of cover, eg: cancellation charges &c.
I think this could be interesting... ed henson

Very risky. The reason their policy is so high is they are a greater risk health wise. E111 only covers NH cover where available. It may not be "free" only reduced. What about additional costs such as hotel bills if one of them is hospitalised for a period outwith their booked holiday, air ambulance, repatriation, medication and drugs etc.
