    Hello Group,

I only need a cancellation insurance for 7 days in the UK for 2 people over 70.
I have been sent one by the hotel which will cost £21 in total. Is this good or can I get cheaper ?

    Best wishes

    hello all,
I have cover for myself and my wife through Alliance & Leicester account.

However A&L quote £48 per year to add the three children (age 7, 4 and 18months).

On moneysupermarket, I have just picked up a 10 day policy for the boys for the amazing sum of just 84p. Yes that is just eighty four pence, including IPT.

    Nick.

It is all very well and good getting cheap travel insurance but it is useless and a waste of money if it is not the cover you require. Make sure that you are covered for any activities that you intend to partake off. Many exclude things such as jet-skiing, bunji-jumping etc. therefore if you hurt yourself while dooing these then you are not covered. I have heard many times people on the radio and TV programmes complaining that their insurance would not pay out and on virtually every occasion the problem was because they bought as cheaply as they could and did not READ their policy wording. Not all policies are the same.

Also, if you have a disability or an illness make sure that you inform the travel insurance company when you are booking. If you do they will sometimes cover it or may charge an additional premium but that is better than you trying to hide it and then finding out that you are not covered.

Remember cheap is often cheap for a reason so make sure you know what you are buying.

    Hi

My daughter has been studying in the USA since last September and we took out an Endsleigh Study Abroad policy, with her laptop as a specified item, to cover her. We always new she intended to travel a bit when she finished the final term, so were never sure exactly when she would return. In the end we took the policy for 10 months which means it ends mid July. It now looks as though she will return about 1 week after the cover ends.

I have been in touch with Endsleigh who say they can't (or won't) extend the policy. (The policy does have an Emergency Extension Cover condition but only for reasons beyond your control).

It seems they can only offer a new policy (minimum one month) for something like £85 (original 10 month premium approx. £350) or a normal travel policy (with no specific laptop cover) for about £27 I think. (Only just thought of this but isn't travel insurance bought in the UK only valid if the journey starts in the UK?).

I guess I'm asking if anyone can suggest a policy which might cover 1 daughter + 1 laptop for her remaining week in the USA and her journey home and might cost less than £85? Could she try getting cover in the USA perhaps?

    Thanks.

I posted a thread earlier today before finding this article.

Egg have a new offer at the moment - family annual policy (2 adults and I think no child limit, but check the details) £20 for Europe and £50 for worldwide. Limited to Egg Card holders as far as I can tell.

Is it worth discussing excesses in these articles - I find with a £50 excess that many policies have (under each claimed for section), it is often not worth claiming which is why I go for the Insure&go no excess option. For example with a £50 excess you would be even if you made 1 claim in 2 years if the premium was £25pa higher.
    I think....

Excellent article but should have had more detail in the single trip section, as I assume most people on here won't have any need for annual cover. I've always found travel-insurance-web to be the cheapest for single trip and they definitely should have got a mention in this category as well.

  • Alliance and Leic. may be free to take out but BEWARE if you have to make a claim as you can only claim 300 pound for any single item!
