I was misreading the spread sheet, E10 is the cheaper option depending on how they split the rate in October, even with running the ecodan 24/7

The controller is a user device meant to be used by the home owner, did they not leave you the manual for it? Its very simple to use after watching some videos of it being done.

Thanks @markin and good to know about E10 being cheaper option. Was just looking at the quick start PDF I downloaded, particularly scheduling. Bit complex, but will take a look at the panel.

Just to add that checked the panel and schedule is set for 24 hours; all days underlined, all hours filled in with black. No idea now what the issue is, so will say thanks for feedback and will contact HA to explain that asked advice via photos and doesn't appear that Ecodan physically fitted to use only E10 hours, plus panel shows all-day heating on, but only 10 hours of heating. Something's wrong somewhere, as I'd not have used the oil-filled radiator unless genuinely cold, so fingers crossed the HA come through.

The panel should be wired in to the same circuit as the Ecodan so if there is a display on the panel then the Ecodan unit should also be receiving power.  You say that it is on for only 10 hours each day but you have not said (here) which 10 hours.

Turned off heating via the panel last week, but heating had been on for a full year before that and the 10 hours followed the usual E10 hours, although even those weren't good. There'd be a few hours of heat during the night then early afternoon then in the evening. Often very cold (shivering, as if have no heating system at all) just when want it warmer e.g. late evening/midnight, first thing, tea time. This happens despite the panel showing 24 hours of heat scheduled.

It's possible that although you have 24 hours of heat scheduled, the set temperature on your master room thermostat is different at different times of day.  I do this quite deliberately, setting back the set temperature by a few degrees at night then gradually increasing it during the day.  But perhaps in your case it was done for you and whoever did it got it wrong?

Always have adjusted temperature myself, using the remote/thermostat, as needed. Turn heating off, at cupboard panel, only when the set 10 degrees [showing on the remote/thermostat] is too warm, and see 'oFF' shown on the remote/thermostat, which it's showing now. During the last 6 very cold months, with heating on all the time, no matter how much manually raised the temperature, via remote/thermostat, didn't bring any heat through.
