Tesla insurance seems particularly high, don’t know if expectations were lower because of people’s previous cars or whether delays on parts is feeding in to insurance pricing.

    Apparently.

Is it really any different to the person who hovers at the supermarket to help out with problems in the self-service check-outs?
I'm not sure I've ever seen any actual public disorder at Sainsburys, although occasionally people do become mildly irritated by the self service checkouts.  I do try and avoid busy times though.

Being Moto staff I don’t imagine they can sort out problems with the chargers.

You do get queues at petrol pumps but the arrangement of the pumps makes queuing reasonably straightforward and the time you have to wait is rarely more than 5 minutes so there is less chance of drivers pushing in or jumping the queue. I do believe a dedicated queuing area/line so you get to charge when it is your turn would relieve stress. Perhaps things have changed in the last year but I never felt the arrangement of chargers lent itself to an orderly queueing system, hence the need for marshalling.

insuring a Tesla Model 3 and a BMW M3 would cost similar amounts
My insurance for the TM3 is prohibitive TBH.
That is coming from the Focus (£180) or the Fiesta (£160) so my "personal" risk profile is about as low as it gets but then over £1k for the TM3.
I am not sure that the comparison to the M3 is an entirely fair one.  The M3 buyer has lower performance options of the essentially same vehicle.  All TM3 (indeed all EVs) offer fast acceleration with no "slow" models available.  In practice, I find the TM3 so chilled to drive, you really don't push it.

Just checked back to see what I was paying for my 435d back in 2021... £667. The TM3P isn't so bad afterall.

Worse %age for us, but similar outcome. Last year the Y was ~£350, this year ~£700. The Y was a fraction cheaper than the 3, so we got a small refund when switching over. And going back to 2020, the TM3 fee, was a smidge cheaper than the 7yr old Zafira it displaced (go figure?).

The IONIQ is cheaper now, as its cost 'only' went up ~50%.

Probably both. I wonder how many people get an insurance quote for their Tesla or other new EV before placing an order. The first year it probably replaces another vehicle so part way through the insurance the additional premium for the rest of the year doesn’t seem so bad (you might not be told the new annual rate). Then, come renewal, it seems like a massive increase compared to the previous year.
High value cars tend to cost more to insure whether ICE or EV. Nick was driving an expensive BMW before he switched so didn’t se much increase whereas GC moved from an old Fiesta and would notice quite an increase.

These were the figures back in February when I enquired about relative costs of a TM3 and a BMW M4 (not M3 as I said earlier). Nick had made a similar comparison.

That blows out the water my theory that expensive cars cost more to insure.
