They should continue to work with Green Energy. GEUK have been offering a time-of-use tariff - Tide - for quite a while so they should have got the hang of smart meters by now.

The only fix i can get is with EDF approx £345 up from my current £101 with BG Evolve.  BG will not allow me to even see and refuse to tell me what their current fixed offerings are.

If the new Chancellor, or OFGEM, decides in the future to scrap Standing Charges will the people with Fixed Deals benefit too or will they have to wait until their deal expires? I know it probably won't happen, but what if?

You will pay what you have fixed with.

If that were to be the case the SC would be loaded on the price per kWh somewhere so it's a bit of a moot point.

Yeah your right. What was I thinking Anyway, I'm happy that I have signed up with GE. Now I just have to be patient and wait for the transfer to happen and keep my fingers crossed that it will all go smoothly!!

If there's a law scrapping standing charges, your standing charge will be scrapped regardless of fixing. Law trumps any contract (see eg. abolition of slavery). This is very unlikely.

If (less unlikely) Ofgem reduce the standing charge component of their cap, the capped unit price will increase to compensate. That won't affect your fix.

I hummed and hawed a bit and actually missed out on the previous version of this deal but eventually bit the bullet. Even after accepting it i was in 2 minds for the first few days cancelling during the cooling off. My last Avro D/D was about £95 and Sainsburys were after about £122 and that's a fair increase. My AVRO deal actually was meant to run to January 2022 and the way i looked at it was even if it was costing me roughly an extra £30 a month i could live with missing 4 months cheaper energy. Plus with Sainsburys deal having no exist fees if in the unlikely event prices started dropping i had a way out if/when i wanted. When AVRO went a few days later they made my mind up for me. Lucky!!

I was lucky enough to get the earlier one in the start of September '21'.
After shopping around every year for the best deals over the last 10-12 years, as you did I had a feeling something was going to happen, because it's gotta be pretty grim if I'm considering a Sainsbury's deal (previous year's were extortion compared to rest (which have now collapsed))

I did exactly the same as you hummed and hawed over the 1 year fix and the 2 year fix from Sainsbury's. Wincing the 2 year fix was £15 a month more I opted for the 1 year fix.

Exacly this and i know what you mean re 1 and 2 year deals. I bounced along on Avro for circa 3 or 4 years  and just took their cheapest deal on offer when renewal came up. I reluctantly chose Sainsburys and left Avro for, from memory , about £25/30 extra per month. Was made harder when Symbio, Neon Reef and the other usual suspects were, it seemed, carrying on apparently  oblivious to it all and i had actually thought of joining them in the past. As recently as last summer actually.

Has there been some indication this might happen? I may have missed some relevant news but my immediate reaction is that this would seem illogical and so extremely unlikely.
