O.S Daily Thread Sat 15/12/07

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sat 15/12/07. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Hi MRSMIX - sorry you've had trouble sleeping. I think that there are just too many lists for us girls at this time of year. Trouble is, if you write a list, it's not until you get into bed that you remember something else you should have put on it! I'm going to start taking my list upstairs with me when I go to bed so I can add to it! I had the same problem last night even though I was really tired. I think it's because time seems to be rapidly running out before the big day and I think I'll never get everything done.

I wanted to get some more wrapping up done yesterday but I had to get DH's contractor's paperwork off to the Inland Revenue (or HMRC as they've helpfully re-named it) - it has to be with them by the 19th of the month or you are automatically fined so - no pressure then! Anyway, it's done and I've just read that I can do it online in future so I will get that organised and it will give me a bit more time. It was the last thing I felt like doing yesterday but a relief that it's now ready for posting.

Today we are putting up the Christmas tree - I'm looking forward to getting it all done. I have found loads of cheap bits and pieces from charity shops this week to add to the decorations, including a lovely Father Christmas that plays Jingle Bells - can't believe it worked; it only needed batteries - I paid 55p for it. A lot of the things I picked up would be really expensive brand new - I haven't shown them to anyone so the grandchildren will be surprised - I shall have displays all over the house, including the loo! I can't believe people throw good decorations out - I only part with mine if I give them away. Both my boys have taken a boxful when they have moved into their own homes, some of them things that my Mum gave me when I moved out. It's great to see something from my childhood in their homes.

N9EAV - are you still with us? If so, have a great holiday!

Well, I suppose I'd better get a wiggle on. I have a few errands to run this morning so I want to get out quite early if I can. I have to pick up a parcel that couldn't be delivered yesterday - I was out and it need a signature. The good thing is that I can collect it from my local post office so I won't have to wait for hours at the sorting office.

    Anyway, off for a shower.

    See you all later.

Morning... I am getting excited now as the hours tick down to me departure time. We have a lot to do today though. Cleaning, pets to sort out, packing... yikes!!! The get a soem kip for a 2am drive to Bristol in the morning.
My hopes of an easy day yesterday were dashed and I ended up working late. I was relieved by someone on a later shift and so I made it home just in time to meet my Aussie friends for tea.

So much to do...... best go.

Morning mrs_mix, mioliere and N9eav :hello: and everyone else :D I had a song in mind but after reading your posts I decided it needed a 'list' theme :rotfl:

I had THE most yummy steak last night, and they put the exact right amount of coke in my barcadi :D I usually say 'bit more coke, no - bit more, more, arrrrrgh too much, stick another bacardi in it please' ROFL. I recommend The Four Mile House in Brookthorpe, Glos :D

Just a bit of housework today, I'm taking master tru to town to buy his presents. He's 17 and wants clothes, I'm bound to get it wrong if I choose for him  Then we're meeting my mum and dad for a drinky before master tru heads for his mate's house and all the oldies in the family and the very littlies (my cousin's kids) meet my nan at 3pm to eat :D None of the teenagers wanted to come, don't blame them - they'd be bored.

We're going to a wedding tomorrow. I'm knackered already, the reception runs straight into the evening do though so there's no running around between venues, we might leave at about 8pm. It'll be nice to go a wedding where mr tru isn't the best man, he usually sits at the top table while I get to sit next to a nutty relative I've never met before :rotfl: The groom was mr tru's best man 18 years ago, and they're getting married on our anniversary LOL. When mr tru pointed out the date, Matt said 'ooooooh, it rang a bell but I couldn't remember what it was' :rotfl:

    Morning Everyone

Must be a little warmer here today, as last few days I poked my nose over the duvet, only to bury it back there pdq, hence I haven't made it here early, and then I try to read before posting, and never make it.

Have a great holiday n9eav we went to Orlando over Xmas for our 25 WA with 14 yo DS, enjoyed it but have no desire to return, and neither has he.

Sorry to hear about the lack of funding Pen-Pen.
Glad to hear your Mum is having the peg Hilstep.
Glad to see you back Amie.
How's your mum Pipkin? (and the mice)

Kitchen all but finished a little corner where he needs a piece of trim, but hob and extractor installed and all other things done. I don't know if you remember my WM was leaking and the insurance I had with it was so slow I ended up being paid out as I was considering replacing it £75 not a lot, but something towards it, anyway we purchased it from a small local shop who came out to check it out, and could not find a leak:confused: . We have monitored it since and no leak:rolleyes: . He only charged us £10. Need to watch it on a full towel load though, as that was what it did it on. Caught almost up to date, but on Wednesday switched the TD on, and that wouldn't start, the same guy came out to that (too old to be under guarantee) and needs a part - maybe Tuesday!

Bedroom started and one side done and floor laminate down, really pleased with both the laminates in here and the kitchen, the kitchen is "pretend Granite", but each piece of laminate is a tile, and the markings are pressed into the laminate not printed on, and looks very effective. In the bedroom it is the "V" board laminate again with each plank being a seperate piece, and the colour we picked pecan looks like it is actually floorboards (sheer fluke!). Units fitted one side, and half on the other, slight delay as the wardrobe door was going to clash with the radiator, hence a shorter double instead of the existing single - another £60! Currently no door on the room, and it leads off the lounge (bungalow) guy back Monday pm. He is really stressed trying to get everyone finished for Xmas, and due to the flood situation around here, units are getting short and things arriving with bits missing. We seem to be OK so far, but only with his persistance, not mentioning waiting for folk to pay as all small contractors are. Will post piccies later - found the camera, just need daylight now:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not done yet, cards, tree, wrapping - a little done only, meal planning, have the goose in the freezer. Didn't make the weekend in the 'van but will go and socialise later as its only 20 mile away. That's enough drivel to make up for this week.

Enjoy your weekend and (((hugs))) to all.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • Morning all
I'm hoping to put my tree up this weekend, put it this way, if hubby doesn't get it out the loft today, he'll be wearing his lunch on Christmas Day & not eating it.
I'm a bit stumped as to what to do with the lodger on Christmas Day, I don't want to exclude her, but I know there is nothing in a Christmas lunch that she will eat & I really don't feel like cooking 2 seperate meals. The lady who started her 'uncling' was going to invite her but has now changed her mind as she has some Muslim friends coming & the lodger is a bit too strident in her Christain beliefs to mix with them without a row developing. I'm really beginning to feel that the lodger is just being fussy.
Have a great holiday N9eav & hugs to everyone else.

  • Good morning everyone

I got up at 6.30 this morning (unheard of for a Saturday) because I have such a huge to do list for today

This morning I am hoping to get through this lot :

housework - clean bathroom - duvets and bedding from 2 bedrooms - iron and put on new duvets - clean fridge - ??junk up into loft - make scottish tablet - 2 loads of washing - write xmas cards and wrap presents to give out this afternoon - sponge clean jacket for work.

At 1pm I am meeting family for xmas lunch then taking Mum to finish her xmas shopping. When I get back, I hope to :

decorate xmas cake - make ginger wine - make baileys - write food list for shopping tomorrow morning.

Then I will sit down tonight with a glass of bailey's , nibbling at tablet and watch the X Factor final.

Let's hope it all goes to plan, have a good Saturday!
