    Decided to go for it as I've calculated an overall increase of 23%. Unfortunately, the link in my email doesn't work! - says "This page isn't working". I can go to my online account to select the same tariff but that signs me up with immediate effect. The email link is supposed to keep me on the current capped tariff until end of June. Hopefully just an overnight glitch and it will be OK in the morning

    I’ve been offered the 23V2 as an ex peoples energy customer who auto hopped to British Gas.
    Martin Lewis suggests fixing where the new deal is no more than 30-35% higher than the current cap (estimating now much it could go up in October, but not sure if Jan and April reviews are considered here).
    23v2 is around 40% higher than the current price cap, so I’m thinking it could be worth taking a risk and sticking to variable tariffs capped by Ofgem.
    I am only with BG for gas.
    current standing charge: 27.220p
    current unit rate: 7.444p
    23V2 standing charge:
    29.959p
    23v2 unit rate: 10.461p
    Last years annual usage in a 3 bed, 3 storey semi with 2 adults: 10490kwh
    would appreciate if anyone could double check my Maths!
  • Hi, Iv been offered the Jul 23V2 tariff however I have difficulty comparing if it’s a good choice or not as I only have 2 months usage (First time home owner).

    March-April usage;
    Gas - 727kWh and Elec - 130kWh
    April-May usage;
    Gas - 439kWH and Elec - 111kWh

    Current rates are;
    Gas Unit - 7.27p kWh
    Gas Standing - 32.03p per day
    Elec Unit - 29.32p kWh
    Elec Standing - 55.69p per day

    New rates are;
    Gas Unit - 10.89p kWh
    Gas standing - 35.47p per day
    Elec Unit - 38.13p kWh
    Elec Standing - 61.87p per day

    Any advice please?
    Mortgage Starting Balance - £158,000.00
    Mortgage Outstanding - £157,271.91
    Term Left - 39 Years / 10 Month

    Tried again this morning and the link in the email still takes me to: "This page isn't working". Rather than risk losing the deal, I've signed up through my online account where the same tariff is available to me. The downside is that I am now switching 3 weeks earlier than I would like. Just in case anyone else is still holding off, note that the tariff terms and conditions do say "We’ll only sell so many of these tariffs, and we might withdraw it."

    I did the same and went on chat with BG and he said it wouldn't change till your contract ends on 30th June. The initial email said it would change in 24hrs and its been 48 hrs and it hasnt changed. Go on chat for piece of mind I was 116 in the queue and it took about 25 mins to get connected

    Finally got a bill and they started charging the new fixed rate from the 8th June and not at the end of the original contract on 30th June. Now facing the prospect that the government will freeze the current rates and I end up paying £50 per month more for the 12 month fixed term  :(

    They did the same to me. They billed me from the 7th of June but they had sent me a email around the 28th saying the new tariff started on the 30th of June so i messaged them on the British gas facebook group and argued the case and they changed the bill. I think if liz truss freezes the cap at £2500 with the £400 discount then this deal is a damp squib. My british gas estimation is £3500 so I'm gonna look at the deal and decide whether to bail out and pay the £150 cancellation fee

    Just had an email from British Gas to say I can switch to the variable rate (which will be capped at £2,500) without paying any exit fees - though it does say if I switch NOW there are no exit fees. Obviously I want to see the new tariffs before deciding.

    I saw a post on face book with a copied email from there supplier saying the government subsidises rates were 33p elec and 9p gas but it didn't mention standing charges. But I did read those on fixed deals should be better off as we will get a discount the same as the variable rate. But  probably best wait for the rates to come out
