Agreed on the hot water - our is down to 40 mins in the morning which is enough for showers etc. and I am a luxurious shower girl - no in and out in 5 minutes for me 🙈And if I feel we need it, does on for 15 mins in the evening.Sorry I’ve of missed it - how many people in your house?0

Thank you everyone so far for all your amazing advice! I am currently pegging out my washing and Gerry I will double check now for a second emersion! Thank you!
Mrs F there are 4 of us in the house and I reduced last night the hot water - it is on for an hour in the morning, an hour at lunch and an hour at dinner..... no more hot baths for me apart from maybe once a week.
You are all amazing and I cannot thank you enough for your help!0 -
Some great advice to JoJo on reducing the costs .I ll add my two pennworth in minimising the electric shower using the on/off method .Just switch it on for maybe 2 minutes tops for wetting, then switch off and take your time, as long as you like washing yourself properly , saving water too, then switch back on for maybe 90 secs only to thoroughly rinse off. Total 3.5 mins only for the biggest using appliance in the house by a country mile at around 8kw to 12kw . It costs approx £2.40 an hour to run an electric shower . Big savings on this appliance..Stop ironing too ! the crumples shake out .
Maybe I m extreme but I m on less than 4 kwh s a day electric now and the gas heating has nt been used for nearly a month now since I started economising but I m retired now and on my own since my partner died and can do this although she was worse than me and would nt have the heating on in the middle of a freezing winter !
What JoJo wants though as well is crystal ball gazing to the future energy prices. Me too actually As I d fix now at those prices if I knew what 2023 /2024 would bring.
The way things are going with pressure on Boris they re going to give us £400 in October and scrap the repayment too .0 -
Hi SAC2334,
Thank you also for your advice especially regarding the shower and the ironing. My total for today is showing £2.40 ....
Am am also wondering what with the announcements today from the government - where does this put us with regards to fixing? I am still unsure whether to fix now ... as essentially it means paying more now to save later? Am I correct?0 -
Sorry that is £2.40 for electric only ... not including gas.0

Am I right in thinking something is using our electricity at midnight?0

You’ll always be using some - ie freezer/fridge overnight. Can you change it to kWh rather than £ so you can see how much energy is being used?0

I thought that might be standing charge too, just under 30p is what I pay. Smaller peaks for breakfast and lunch as expected.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
